Kinja'd!!!

One of my fraternity brothers was in need of a car so since I like cars he figured I’d want to join in on the car shopping. He drives around 85 miles a day in his round trip to and from work. As a result he was looking into some that was fuel efficient, and he wanted a hybrid for ATL driving. He had it narrowed it down to the Malibu Hybrid and a Fusion Hybrid. We found a loaded Fusion, but it was 30 miles away. Before that he said something about a Lexus CT200h . So I found one that was on the way to go see the Ford.

I haven’t much experience dealing with Lexus dealers, but the salesman was very knowledgeable. He seemed to know all the features, which is in stark contrast to most of the sales people I normally deal with who can’t tell me shit about whatever I’m driving. I think the test drive sold my friend on the Lexus. I told him we should still do due diligence and go look at the Ford.

So we made the drive up there. The dealer experience was night and day. The salesman knew nothing about the car and didn’t try to sell it at all. We also couldn’t get the stereo to work. I got my phone connected to Apple Car Play and it still wouldn’t work. Both the salesman and the car turned my friend off of the car.

While I was up there, I couldn’t help myself and I had to go look at this manual E92 328i M-Sport coupe I had been looking at. I really liked it, but it was way over priced. They gave me some bullshit about pricing and what not, and they didn’t want to give me a different price because then I could go price shopping. I told him, that I was busy for the next week, but when it’s still there next Friday I might be interested.

Here’s a link to the E92.

While I was driving the only non-M manual E9X car I’ve driven, my friend decided we were going back to Lexus to get the car. So we get back down there and sign all the paperwork; however, they wouldn’t release the car to him until he got a GA license and GA insurance, since he was registering the car in GA and he still had a CT license. He bought it and got it financed he just can’t get it until he gets a GA license, which will happen soon. Once that happens, I’ll probably go with him to pick it up.

If only Lexus still sold a hatchback with a V6 instead a hybrid motor... Then I could not buy it, wait ten years, then try to buy it, get frustrated looking for one, then complain that Lexus doesn’t sell any interesting cars for people like me!

Sounds about right. I wish Acura had put the V6 in the TSX Sport Wagon, if they had I might be all over that. This did make me want to look for an IS for myself instead of just getting another BMW, even if I really liked that E92, well apart from the price. I told them I’d give them 15.5k, they were like no.

Remind him the DMV is closed on Mondays. The lunch time wait in the Forsyth office is pretty quick.

Yeah, he knows that and will be gone next week, he’s looking at picking it up March 7th.

Speaking of which I should probably get a GA license again. I wonder if I’ll get my old DL number back, I still remember it for some reason.

I don’t suppose that your fraternity’s national headquarters is based just outside of Atlanta, is it? Long shot, but I’m curious.

Nope, it’s not. I did go to school in ATL though.

It certainly was smaller than my E90.

I’ve had the same experience when my Mom bought her Lexus (ES300h). The salesmen were extremely knowledgeable about every obscure feature of the car.

That said, I highly doubt she’ll buy another Lexus because the damn infotainment system is completely unfathomable. The display looks near-identical to the touchscreen in her old Prius, yet it’s not a touchscreen, and instead uses a stupid mouse. The NAV display looks intentionally confusing; no idea why they didn’t just copy Google/Garmin/TomTom. But worst of all, you have to use the mouse/infotainment just to adjust the temperature. The heater/AC should always be controlled by physical knobs.

It’s a shame, because the car is otherwise fantastic. Beautiful interior, quiet ride, great fuel economy. But the fucking computer has soiled us on Lexus.

I was a little leery on the mouse, but it seemed like you could get used to it. I do believe idrive is about the best interface out there. I find it really easy to use, so that’s what I compare everything else to. It did seem like with time, you could figure out the Lexus mouse thing. You could control the HVAC with the mouse, but it also had buttons on the dash. I do not like when you can only control HVAC with the infotainment.

I guess I’ll get some feedback once he’s had the car for a little and see how he’s liking the mouse thing.
