I need to name it, and I’m at a loss. Also, I’m thinking of buying a Brooks Conquest touring saddle. Riders of Oppo, what say thee on Brooks saddles?

Their over hyped too expensive beautiful pieces of crap. But I have weird sit bones and it hard for me to find a comfortable saddle, so my opinion may mean nothing

Don’t get me wrong, I love my take-off GT saddle. But if I’m riding a fully rigid frame, a sprung seat or seatpost is cheaper than a bluto or Lauf fork.

I like. My response to snow storms has shifted drastically since taking delivery.

I ride a K2 Astral 2.0 Hybrid rigid frame and I have a sprung seat post. My Garneau saddle fits me great but I still find myself lifting over bumps and dips in the road. I don’t think there is any saddle that will eliminate the need to do that

First I thought of was the doors, but either one works. Storm has many meanings.

I didn’t expect it would. I had a sprung post on my road bike, and it just dampened the abuse, not eliminated it. I was steering toward a thudbuster, but started looking at sprung saddles and came across the brooks. I just wanted to be able to stay in the saddle on rooty singletrack beyond what fat tires will do.

Too expensive for me. If I’m going to be paying that sort of money, the seat should be cradling my ass with angel wings.

It’s in the neighborhood for a Cobb or a suspension post. I’ll be buying one of the above, but don’t know which yet.

I’m a WTB Silverado guy when it comes to MTB saddles (Selle Italia with a cutaway on the road) All of my MTBs are hardtail (one front suspension, one full rigid) If the bumps bothered me that much, I’d throw a Cane Creek thudbuster on it, but a higher volume with lower pressure rear tire seems to do the trick enough.

Brooks are brilliant for what they are, but they are the high-maintenance girlfriend of saddles. They look great, feel great, but you have to take care of them, a lot.

A thudbuster was the direction I was heading, but came across the Brooks sprung saddles. I don’t have experience with them, so I thought I’d ask.

Bicycle tourer I used to work with loved his. Personally, a bit rich for my blood, and I don’t really like the aesthetic.

I do need a new saddle though, my current one not anywhere near as comfortable as the one that came with bike (was destroyed in a crash).

In looking at the prices between a Bluto, a thudbuster or equivalent, or a Lauf fork, Brooks seems downright reasonable. A saddle and suspension in one for under $150.

Yeah, I’d set my budget at about half that tops. If I could be certain it would be comfortable I’d spend more, but I’d hate to spend that much, and then get it on the bike and decide I hated it.

Agreed. There are some shops near me that loan tester saddles. It’s not going to provide a fine tuned broken-in experience, but it’ll at least tell me if the saddle is grossly inappropriate or not.

I love my Brooks saddle on my road bike. For off-road, my favorite is a WTB. The biggest problem with leather saddles on a Mountain bike is that leather and water don’t mix. If you don’t have a rear fender, the underside will get soaked. This is a bad thing. If you do it, it would be best to waterproof the underside of the saddle.

I’ve been riding a GT that I like for about five years now, mostly in aggressive singletrack on a hard tail. Now that I’m in the saddle a little more on the fat bike in more of an overland style of riding, I’m finding it’s not suiting my riding style as well anymore. I was going to pick up a pair of mud shovel fenders anyway, which should help protect a leather saddle but I’m not set on the purchase yet. Which WTBs do you like?

I own only one WTB. I’ve had it so long that I’ve forgotten where I picked it up. I tore the cover in a crash a few years back and I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. I keep meaning to send it off to get recovered, but the original was perforated with Kevlar corners and the only place I’ve found will do either fabric or leather, not what it originally had.

Try a repair house that works on fire service gear. They work with nomex and Kevlar and might be able to help you out with an offcut.
