A Tercel gets more attention than Doug's Skyline at the dealer.

I pulled into the dealership to schedule some work on the Taco. The people in front of me got out of their new Rav4 and said they had a Tercel just like mine that they keep at their winter cabin. We chatted and the husband boasted that his had 325k miles and the only problem is that bees like to make nests in it every summer.

While talking to the service rep, I look over my shoulder and see three salesmen pointing at my car. One walks back in and tells the others, “You guys gotta see this.” Soon after, their are ten salesman and service reps circling around the lunchbox. As if they’ve never seen something so ancient and so plaid. I guess from their perspective, they see countless Prii, Rav4s, and Camries, that even a Paseo convertible would have been exotic.

Can’t lie: I walked out with a grin on my face.

I remember a teacher I had in the 4th grade had a Tercel 4x4. I still associate them with her. They were a late model car then.

I’ve had the same thing happen when I’ve driven the fintail to a MB dealer, they gawk at it like it is an alien spaceship. Sometimes a non-exotic old car with quirky charm can get more positive attention than a Ferrari, especially in this area where money is easy-come easy-go.

I got attention when I had to get the alternator but it wasn’t of the good variety. Glad that your car is getting the attention it deserves :)

Nope :)

But they aren’t too rare on ebay. You should find one, it’s cool to have a model of a beloved car, and you’re lucky a model was actually made of yours. The same company also made diecast of the 79-83 style Toyota pickup, but only as a 4x4.

Ive been tempted to take my ranger to the Ford dealer for an oil change, just for shits. But then I thought it would be funnier after I do my 5.0 swap so I think I’ll wait
