Hot take - the Chevrolets they were trying to sell in Europe sucked big donkey balls and if I wanted a cheap decontented car I’d buy a Dacia long before I consider a euro Chevy.

This is dumb on many levels. Firstly if chevy were making products we wanted to buy, but brand snobbery was in play, they couldve slapped vauxhall badges on them and made just as much money.

In the beginning, yes. Later we did get the Cruze and other more real Chevies. Still though, they were not competitive. They were down market from mainstream competitors while being hardly any cheaper. The designs were off too. Hence, very poor sales. Opel vehicles were better offerings; mainstream cars for a mainstream price with decent design offered at the same dealer. I don’t know what GM was thinking in offering Chevy in Europe the way they did, but it was pure incompetence by GM.
The only place for Chevy was as a downmarket brand for downmarket prices, like they were when they were but rebadged deawoos. Making Chevy a mainstream brand for mainstream prices with subpar product with a soiled name offered at dealers with decent mainstream product (Opel) was utter stupidity.

We’ll, to be fair, I’d certainly take a Corvette or Camaro before any Dacia. I’m not too familiar with the full Chevy lineup, but there must be some other cars that are more decent than a Sandero or that little crossover I forgot the name of.
The 2016 Impala Limited (old model) I drove in the US last summer was a disgrace though.
