Kinja'd!!!

I got it out. Sorta figured out what was wrong, too.

Kinja'd!!!

Eeeeeww. ew. I am guessing that at least some of that is 70s chest hair.

The small piece of metal below the handle is not engaging with the sears on the frame (center of picture). Neither are worn out, and upon further inspection, the metal piece is not fully rising in order to engage with them. which means either the spring is worn or lubrication. Not really sure how to remedy this.

Door locks are also diagnosed. Right side works, it just isn’t lubricated. Left side key cylinder needs replaced, also the locking bar is disconnected. I suspect it has the same problem as the passenger side.

Anyone know if you can change new GM key cylinders to match your existing keys? Should be a simple fix if I don’t need to re-key the whole damn car for one cylinder. Gonna have to wait until I take the doors apart to find out.

Also these micro updates ok or do you guys not really care? If you are wondering, this is how I feel right now.

What needs fixed? EVERYONE EVERYTHING

My transmission needs a new rear seal.

I’m betting that the grease in the detent slide just hardened enough to prevent engagement. A good degreasing and some lithium grease should get it going. Those springs don’t typically wear out. They can break though, oddly.

At least the rear seal is an easy job!

Any half-decent locksmith should be able to re-key the cylinder for you. In the Jeep world I’ve actually seen how-to’s. Might even be able to do it yourself.

I didn’t even think about a locksmith. At least it can be done by someone. I like to think I can fix it but I am a bit doubtful, super low on my list of priorities, probably won’t get done until I get everything else for my door together.
