Kinja'd!!!

I’ve configured a $32k Compass with a manual. I’m actually shocked this is doable. I also really like the option 17s on the Latitude.

DEM STEELIES DOE

Kinja'd!!!

Edit: Speced it out just how I would like one. Sport, 4X4, manual, with just the Cold Weather package so I can get heated cloth seats & steering wheel.

Can you explain to me why they have a new compass? I’m looking at the line up and it makes no sense. they have the renegade and Cherokee. Where does the Compass play? it’s not bigger than the Cherokee nor smaller than the renegade. What is it’s purpose?

Does it not use the same platform as either of the two and thus maybe can use a more usable suspension than the Cherokee? As in you can actually lift this thing? in which case is it really just a better cherokee?

I’m confused.

It’s a very small niche. It competes with Trax and HR-V, just like the Renegade.

The Renegade is a small subcompact CUV, the Cherokee is a large compact CUV, this Compass is either a large subcompact CUV or a small compact CUV, the same reason why Nissan has the Juke, Rogue Sport and Rogue and Mitsubishi will have the Outlander Sport, Eclipse Cross and Outlander. CUV’s sell and the more you have the better it gets.

It slots between the tiny Renegade and the medium sized Cherokee.

Its for those that are too big to fit into the Renegade, but can’t afford the Cherokee.

Here’s my Canadian build in Canadian dollars...

Yup... if I was buying now, my build would be the old one which probably costs $9000 to $10,000 less in Canada after all taxes and fees are included.

It’s above the Renegade and below the Cherokee.

I likes the way you think, so I built one out to see how close in price I could make it. Answer: not close. The cheapest 4x4 SR5 would be about 37 grand. Granted you are getting a lot more car, but 4 grand is 4 grand. Still, I didn’t realize you could get one so relatively inexpensive.

it’s your standard FCA cashback less than the Cherokee. I don’t get how price could be a justification. still confused.

so it competes against another jeep for the same market share? what? still confused.

but how? other than a few thousand up or down. are there enough people that can afford 20k but not 23k? that makes no sense to me.

And Toyota is still lame as hell for only offering full-time 4wd on the 4Runner Limited after it being standard on all 4Runners from 2001 to 2009.

Is it not between the Renegade and Cherokee in size?

Just slicing the pie up into neat little chunks.

Renegade

Compass

Cherokee

Grand Cherokee

I see each of these buyers as different. People who like the Renegade will be smitten by the cute, cheap “wrangler Vibe”, the Compass is for people who want a small Jeep but for whom the renegade is a little juvenile is style and size. The Cherokee is for people who want a small Jeep but are enticed by the V6 power and uprated towing and possible even the off road ready drivetrain. The Grand is the aspirational vehicle.

More than size it comes down to market position. Like how someone would buy a sierra instead of a silverado.

but like we are talking about inches in either way.. seriously can’t see how it’s all that differnt in that way.

Is the manual also available in 4x4 trim, and would it attach to an engine out of Renegade? Curious minds must have this knowledge so they can do nothing with it until Renegades depreciate.

If you were a snail and had to travel those extra inches, the difference would be HUUUUUGE...

It’s available 4x4 with manual. The only engine is the 2.4 N/A. The Renegade manual is mated to the turbo 1.4L

It happens with pretty much every segment in the market. Like between midsize and compact cars. Only a few inches difference.

I’ll suggest this to be a good thing. That’s a row-your-own that could potentially end up in a TrailHawk.
