One comically large chainsaw coming up. Dropped the mower off for service (I’ll do oil, but I got no way to sharpen the blades) and saw this bad boy for $2300.

It has a “Rollomatic ES” bar nose, which is designed for easy replacement if the saw is used for boring and limbing. BECAUSE THOSE ARE TWO THINGS YOU WILL TOTALLY DO WITH THAT SAW.
Okay, maybe that’s harsh. Maybe they’re expecting a little boring, for when that bar won’t get all the way across the trunk. HURRRRRRRR

You may have noticed that the teeth have a straight edge, but they also have relief under that edge so it can lift the chip better. The “correct” way to sharpen the tooth is to work a round file at the tooth angle along that relief, so that the relief gets cut back at the same time as the tooth edge gets sharpened from below.
Or you can do your heathenly heathen thing. Heathen.

This whole time I was thinking about sharpening chainsaws for some reason. I am derp.
For mower blades, I use a bench grinder and a balance block.
