Just when you thought people couldn’t be more daft, horseshit like this happens. A Walking Dead t-shirt triggered a pair of twatwaffles becasue it featured Lucille and Eeny-meeny-miny-moe. A line and prop from the season 7 premier of TWD. The pair of pearl clutchers claim up and down the High street this makes phrase and baseball reference the beating of POC. A direect quote from the male fool:

“The graphic has a large American baseball bat, wrapped round with barbed wire, and covered with blood. This image relates directly to the practice of assaulting black people in America.”

Yup, you read that correctly. I hope his back is feeling alright from making that huge stretch.

Read more about the backlash over at the BBC.

Now the retailer Primark has been made to pull the shirt because of an obscure reference to one version of the popular children’s counting rhyme featuring the N-word and a gross misinterpretation of Lucille.

Good ol’ outrage culture. One of the biggest reasons DJT is in the White House. And also one of the biggest reasons the left is tearing itself apart.

So Negan kills a black guy? I just assumed it was going to be Abraham. I haven’t watched the current season yet, so thanks for the spoilers, assholes! /s

I’m guessing you don’t really know any black people that deeply in your life. It matters and it isn’t trivial to them.

I had literally never heard about that version of the rhyme until it blew up in JC’s face. I always heard it as “catch a tiger”.

Honest Abe and Glenn. that’s it. A line from the show and a prop and now molehills are mountains.

It was literally not an issue after the first episode of S7 aired 5 months ago. Nothing was said, written or done after the episode aired by any POC, organization representing POC or any other activist group.

It’s only an issue after a shirt is made and some git reacts badly.

Either way, if said subject, tiger or otherwise, hollers, you let him go. How does that mean beat anything with a barbed wire baseball bat? I’m not getting the outrage...

Perhaps the point is not that it matters, but whether or not it should?

I’m not getting it either, but I’m getting into that discussion. I enjoy oppoing too much to risk anything.

I’m just vocalizing a “wait-this-was-a-thing” moment.

Most people have no clue what the Walking Dead is. All I would see is a reference to a rhyme that originally jested about capturing people and a barbed wire bat.

Fortunately the US has absolutely no history with the kidnapping and assault of black people. none what so ever.

Ah Britain, the birthplace of the “I have a right to not be offended” school of thought.

There’s at least 4 more years of living in Onion articles.

Related: I was wearing a Heisenberg t-shirt a couple years ago with “SAY MY NAME” on it. Beyoncé saw me at Walmart and threatened to sue me, so I turned it inside out. The world has gone crazy.

the shirt divorces it entirely from it’s context in the show.

Wow the stupid stuff that people get mad about never ceases to amaze me. So people are getting mad about an obscure reference to a TV show that happens to coincide with with a children’s rhyme, one less popular version of which references a word people find offensive. .......... I’m at a loss for words other than wow.

From a rather good article concerning the right to not be offended:

English comedian, actor, writer and activist, Stephen Fry once said, “It’s now very common to hear people say, ‘I’m rather offended by that.’ As if that gives them certain rights. It’s actually nothing more... than a whine. ‘I find that offensive.’ It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. ‘I am offended by that.’ Well, so fucking what.”

This shit is stupid.

We should also ban all movies and TV shows made prior to 1985, books that include the n-word, and songs that use the word black to represent something negatively.

Out of curiosity who exactly are you angry at specifically. The guys who made the complaint or Primark for pulling the shirt?

This is honestly the stupidest thing I can remember reading. That rhyme has been around forever and has nothing to do with black people in it’s original form. Everyone knows it’s “tiger”. I haven’t even watched the Walking Dead, but if that provides additional context that does not reference assault on black people, then the complaint is even more stupid.

Do you need the AMC trademark to get the reference? Even if it’s a pirated image...someone has to be either entirely clueless about TWD or willfully obtuse not to get the reference.

I’d never heard of anyone using anything but “tiger”, but my quick Wikipedia scan tells me that the rhyme had many versions, of which the “n” word version is only one, and not a popular one in any recent time frame. Funny, I also saw there that some black folks tried to sue Southwest Airlines for an attendant using the rhyme to count seats, but the suit was thrown out. So, score one for common sense there.

He sure nailed that one. I wonder when the “offended” movement started. It seems to have been born in Limeyland, migrated to Oz and Canuckistan, then finally made it to Murka.

It hits both sides too. The only thing worse than a SJW snowflake crying about being offended is an alt-reicher complaining about being offended by the SJW set.
