I just ordered a Carrand 8" brush and I’m wondering if any of you have any thoughts? I’ve never used a brush to wash so I’m a little leery about scratches.

Is that a car washing brush, or just something from the cleaning isle?

It’s specifically for car washing.

I do for the wheels and plastic bits, sometimes it sneaks onto the paint but I give both vehicles paint correction a few times a year with the pc so it’s not a big deal.

I do, but I’m a nazi about power washing the brush after I’m done. You have to fastidious in terms of making sure there’s nothing in the bristles.

Oh, in that case why not? I use a brush all the time.

Edit - I just realized that’s only a $10 brush. I might hesitate using something that cheap.

I only use a brush on the wheels personally

I use a soft-bristle wash brush, and a separate one for the wheels. I always use the two-bucket method, rinsing the brush often to get dirt out of it.

The bristles feel super soft.

Full disclosure: I live on an unpaved road, and my car gets pretty dirty. The paint is a couple of decades old and already has a bunch of light scratches in it anyway. So maybe avoiding more scratches is kind of a lost cause, but I still exercise care when washing it to keep the damage to a minimum. The paint’s faded, so I intend to re-paint it within the next few years anyway.

Yep. Not sure about the brush that’s back at the house, may be a boar’s hair one. Not really that much trouble where scratches are concerned if it’s clean, but it’ll remove wax/etc. A fluffy wash mop might be better for some cars.

Probably safer than any automatic car wash, or the coin operated washes. Just be careful not to hit the car with the plastic edges of the brush, and rinse the brush a few times during the wash. Maybe use a square/rectangle bucket with a grit guard.

Don’t do it! That is the first way to get tons of scratches on your car!

I use one of those fingerlike chamois on a pole to do the roof of the minivan (and most of the body because my back is getting old). And not a carwash goes by that I don’t use the line “I wash mahself with a rag on a stick, heh heh!”

I use a brush all the time. That being said, I drive crappy Subarus and don’t really care much about my paint, which is covered in fine scratches.

Possibly the best episode ever. I don’t know what I’d do if I were married to someone who didn’t meet (or exceed) my Simpsons references. “Hey miss ‘doesn’t find me sexually attractive anymore,’ I just tripled my productivity!”

Oh, I didn’t know you already had it and were capable of feeling it up.

If it feels soft enough, then go for it.

Depends on how much you worry about getting scratches...

I use a brush on my truck and my van, but not on my car. It may scratch a bit, but so be it, that’s what they make polishes and buffers for. I got over the scratches thing after I got good at compounding and polishing. I figure I can smooth almost anything out good enough every few years.

I do recommend the two bucket method and some grit guards. That will help keep dirt from being spread around.

I use the brush at the car wash all of the time. I spray it out with hi pressure soap first but I have an F150 Supercrew and I am 5'9" so yeah I use the brush.

No no no no no. Use a hose first to rinse the big chunks of dirt off, then plain water and microfiber towels using the 2-bucket method.

It may take longer, but your paint will thank you.
