So I was in class the other day on a cold morning, when another teacher comes in the room and tells me to come with him to the parking lot, the cops are here. I go and grab a donut on the way out, cause why not.

I get outside, and apparently a poor bastard (tm) had slid his early chevy equinox or other chevy suv and tapped the back of my truck which was parked in a pull through space. The parking lot was covered in black ice so it wasn’t surprising.

The Hispanic kid is standing there scared shitless thinking he collapsed my bumper, and cracked his whole front grill and bumper. The officer asked me to inspect the seemingly significant damage.

I start laughing as I tell them both the bumper damage is pre existing from backing into a stump, and that I wasn’t even going to ask for the kids insurance.

Kinja'd!!!

See left side of bumper

I thanked the kid for sticking around, turned down his offer for a coffee and went back inside cause it was cold. I don’t even think there’s an extra scratch on my truck. Tho I probably should have gotten his number in case theres something I didn’t notice, but I doubt it.

Moral of the story?

Metal bumpers and ride height.

In other news It took 5 years but I think I’m starting to like eurobeat. Post SUPEREUROBEAT for me to blast while driving around in a 8000lb touge truck. Or your own stories. Do whatever.

Thats like the time in 2014 when some backed into the door my 03 Vibe. They were all worried. The body was so dinged up, that I could are less. I told him that it’s a 11 year old beater, insurance will write it off (no structural damage) since the repair would exceed the cars value. It also helped that he had a very dinged up beater.

Reminiscent of when my dad had a puke green American land yacht wagon in the 80's and a guy in a brand new BMW merged into him, leaving a long green skid mark on the Beemer, and nada on my dad’s wagon. The guy was pissed, but as it was his fault six ways from Sunday, my dad drove off laughing after offering to call the cops if he was really that mad.

I had a young girl in a brand new Yaris run into the rear end of my Wrangler years ago. I had a heavy full steel bumper. Didn’t even crack the powder coating on my bumper but pretty sure her car was a write-off. She was super young and crying and my wife and I had to talk to her then her dad on the phone. With no damage to my ride, and I injuries to anyone and her dad in the way we went on with our day. Bumpers and ride height. Agreed.

You’re a good person. Other people would’ve likely milked the situation for a new bumper.

I was rear ended at a light a few winters ago in my $400 beater car. Guy decided to drive off which made me mad but i drove the car the way it was for a few months. Only thin i replaced was the taillight because it broke. Eventually i replaced the bumper with a good one from a bright yellow car. (Mine was black)

Gotta love beater cars

I woulda followed the fuck outta the guy, at least till I got a plate. Getting rear ended in a beater should be the sweet release of insurance death for it. REEEEEEEEEEEEE

Years ago some nitwit turned right in front of my girlfriend and me. We were driving a 1972 MB 240D with big azz chrome bumpers. We t-boned the nitwit’s little red car and mashed the read quarter panel pretty good. The Benz had NO damage. I remember standing there looking at the old Diesel’s bumper, staring at the lack of scratches, dents, anything.

I’m sure we had SUPEREUROBEATS playing on the Becker radio - that’s probably what saved the old Benz.

When I was 17 I drove my sisters Wrangler for a couple of months when I was between cars. We got an ice storm, and I was too confident with having a 4WD at my disposal. I came into the parking lot at work too fast, and hit the back of a 80's Mercedes. So hard it went up over the curb in front of it, and bent the bumper on the Jeep. At lunch I went to a coworkers house, and used a chain around a tree to straighten the bumper on the Jeep. Couldn’t even tell it was ever in an accident afterwards. I still feel bad for not leaving a note on the Mercedes.

Can confirm, steel bumpers are da bomb.

...and it buffed right out. Little bit left. Ain’t care.

Also, annoyingly, this wasn’t the only incident... no accidents in 6 driving years, none in 2 years of owning this truck... and then 2 in 2 months. First this and then I got rear-ended by a Civic. Fortunately it was low-speed... net result 1 more* hole in his bumper from my hitch tube.

*Yes, more—looked like it wasn’t his first rodeo.

Twice I’ve been rear ended with zero damage to my vehicle. First time in a 4runner where my hitch poked a perfect hole through an Audi’s grill, and the second time in an LR3. In that case, it was during a snow storm in Chicago and a teenage kid slid into the back of me. Not even a mark on my bumper, but the hood on his beater was fucked and he was panicking. I calmed him down and let him decide if he wanted to call insurance. As you can imagine, he did not.

Yes, I would be upset if it was my car and no one left a note.
