Then got worse.

Kinja'd!!!

Conflicting decisions being made when the project Architect is on vacation leave architectural interns in bad situations... and that was before lunch.

Add to that a revelation that somebody failed to tell me about 2 sets of drawings that need to be done ASAP. Luckily several people above me came by my desk at the end of the day and apologized for the situation I’d been put in.

On the plus side, I’m damn good at what I do, so I should be able to crank through all of my newfound backlog.

Also, had foodtruck lunch with Jake. That part of the day was fine, lol.

Dude, I know the pain. I work in IT. We had a really small server move turn into a very serious disaster recovery situation because too many cooks were in the kitchen.

In basic terms, I’m the project manager for this particular move, which was supposed to be really straightforward and basic, but upper management wouldn’t let me supervise the project, so there was a lot of conflict within the ranks. I would say do one thing (because the project was planned out extensively), and my coworker would say to do something else.

It resulted in two days of partial downtime, a full day of butting heads with my coworkers, and two 20+ hour work days with overnight trips into NYC to bring service back up in our biggest and arguably most noteworthy client. I have another trip into the city in the morning purely for damage control and because I am throwing caution into the wind, and my coworker under the bus. He was ready to basically decommission the server and configure a new server, and I got the existing server fully functional in about an hour once I got it to the office and had the tools and time to actually assess the damage done by two other people who did not approach the situation with a level head.

Today I essentially just stopped listening to the “manager,” who is taking it quite personally, but he has a complete lack of customer relations skills, and has absolutely brought us very close to losing the client with his attitude and lack of forethought when speaking directly to the client.

Soon I’m just going to request being taken off the role of technician and move specifically into project management so I can absolutely have the last word when problems on site arise, and I don’t have people coming around and blowing things out of proportion.

Much like yourself though, I’m damn good at what I do. I’ve resolved a good majority of the problems, and am certainly learning what to watch out for when I move forward with similar projects.

Wow, that’s a good work environment. Good luck banging away on CAD getting caught up!
