What to do next - the end of the Lincoln lease

Someone backed in to my wife’s Lincoln MKC today. Pretty minor damage, no one is hurt. It however won’t just buff out. We are a few months away from the termination of the lease and we have been discussing our options, one of them was buying it as we’d have a wee bit of equity - driving it for another month or so and using that equity on her next car. That’s now out of the picture as the accident history is going to eat in to the equity of our purchase option price. Pro/con of a lease for another day, pro is we’re walking away from a car with an accident history now!

So, what should we get next?
We’re a family of two with several more years of that status to be expected. Two weenie dogs that get hauled around from time to time. My wife is a choice lease customer. We’re talking we could do a 7,500 miles per year lease and come up short. Open to a lease or to a used car. Current considerations are quite vast and she’s mentioned all sorts of wants:

-She likes the SUV-ness of the MKC and that leather wrapped goodness of the Lincoln - so luxury crossover
-She was really digging the F pace when we went to the launch event. It’s upper end of the budget, but could be stretched for.
-Total opposite end of the spectrum, she loved driving the loaner Fiat 500 turbo we had and that’s incredibly budget friendly on the used market (don’t be foolish, you don’t buy a new fiat). I’m hot on this idea and being a Fiat Family
-She’s crushed hard on the FRS since it came out. Her first car was a TC and she’s nostalgic about having another from the brand/similar
-She said it’s her turn to have a fun car since I’ve cycled through I don’t even know how many cars since she got in to the MKC 2 years ago.

She’s not a big car person, but still has her preferences. Hit me with some reasonable options folks!

TL:DR - what car should my wife get next?

I’m probably a little biased but I always recommend a 4-door coupe style car for people who like utility and sports cars. I have a 430i GC and couldn’t be happier. The Audi A5 Sportback just debuted and is pretty much in the same vein. They both have hatchback-utility, sports car handling, and luxury with good looks to match.

Two very different preferences there but, if you want a nice blend of luxury and fun there is always a nicely specced 3 Series or 4 GrandCoupe.

I would probably turn it in, but know that the dealer will give you a significant price cut from the residual (buyout price) if the carfax shows an accident. Much harder for them to resell compared to a clean carfax.

Also, how about a used Cayman?

I like that thought and it possibly works with other companies. However I work for the company that owns my lease and have worked in the world of lease terms. They do not bend on that number

Those are the good wheels spinning. Just check it out, it’s classy, fast, very fun to drive. It’d be a crime if you didn’t buy one. Mmmhmmm, love me some porsche

Turn it in, and tell the dealership where you turned it in to call you if they still have it in a month.

Lexus NX200t F-Sport is really nice. You can really spec it up with adaptive cruise control, cooled seats, leather everywhere but still get a decent lease. The steering is a little numb compared to sport sedans (though maybe not compared to the Lincoln), but it corners surprisingly well and the turbo engine is quite peppy. The F-sport model drives way better than the normal one, so look at that. Also a plus that it’s Toyota/Scion/Lexus.

You could also get a really cheap lease on a BMW X3 right now. BMWs usually have cheaper leases for a given MSRP (especially if you really bargain with the dealer) and the X3 is getting replaced with an all-new one next year so there’s some deals to be found. The X3 35i is super fast and ridiculous to drive but does get pricy.

Merc GLC 300 4matic seems pretty nice. Haven’t driven one, but it’s probably more on the comfort side of the spectrum of small SUVs, though there is a sport package. Same interior as the C-Class, and that’s better than just about anything else on the road until you double the amount of money. Seriously the interior is amazing.

Maybe a Porsche Macan? Those can get really expensive though with all the options. Probably as much if not more than the F-Pace once you spec it up, even with the base model.

Ford Edge Sport? I don’t know much about it but it seems alright and has a powerful engine. It’s surprisingly expensive for a Ford. Not as luxurious as the Lexus obviously.

These are surprisingly cheap lease options. The NX was super surprising! I took it a step further and looked at the qx30, impressive array of options for the money.
