I think I may be the only person who actually loved Prometheus a lot. I’m crazy about the first two Alien films and Prometheus was the first one that actually recaptured that feeling for me. I think it helped a lot that I went into it completely and willfully blind and came away completely pleased with an unexpected Alien film.
I even tested this hypothesis by making a friend who know nothing about it watch it. She bitched not stop through it, but then got to the reveal and was like, “wait, this was an Alien film? Actually it was good.”

Spoiler rant ahead for Prometheus. You’ve been warned.
I didn’t know Prometheus was a prequel. Part of the way into the movie, early to middle part, the whole thing felt like a shitty take on Alien, but with a different story. Like, they didn’t even bother trying to improve anything, but actually strove to take the original Alien movie, feed it e. coli laced Chipotle, and watch the insanity happen. Towards the end of the movie, the connection with Alien was revealed, that, yes, indeed, that is exactly what this was. Holy hell was this terrible.
Now they want to do this again? I’m not sure this is a wise idea.

The quality of the Alien movies directly corresponds with their sequence
Alien>Aliens>Alien 3>Alien Resurrection>Prometheus
Things aren’t looking up for Covenant.

I have watched in a dozen times. Sadly it doesn’t get better with each re-watching for me. It was a little too esoteric for me, but I like the notion of a series being built on this. Would make a great mini-series.

Prometheus wasn’t a prequel. it was universe building. i.e. it happens before the story we know, but generally unrelated to it.
