Gots a problem with my shifter, given how I don’t have much work to do until the big rebuild I started tinkering.
Why is it rusty? Anywho, the problem is that the shifter is not holding its place in gear. Likely out of alignment/worn parts. A lack of lubrication also needs addressed. Ready to go except I can’t get one of the bolts loose from the bottom because it is freewheeling. GM EXTRUDED NUTS AGAIN. Time to break out the dremel.
Except no, because I can’t find it. This is what my dad’s garage looks like.
I am starting to think this was a bad purchase.

It’s not a Pontiac slap shifter, is it?

I replaced the bulbs, the LEDs work super nice, make the old gauges look amazing.

Those bolts are going to give me nightmares. Kroil is your friend. Or a dremel with lots of spare cutting wheels.

Oh so that’s what the original screws looked like to attach the plastic cover... And you have a functioning light? Jealous!

I’m contemplating mixing on and kroil into some wonder spray.

Somehow. I am more and more amazed at the stuff that actually works.
