I averaged almost 34 mpg on a 20 mile stretch of highway (with the top off). Damn!

Guessing that was done with a manual. Z51 or standard stingray?

Not bad mgp numbers, although I don’t know how much I believe those fuel econ estimates. I usually only rely on mileage when refiling and amount of gallons used.

My GTO in 6th around 55-62 mph will have my around 32 mpg.

That is the beauty of the modern Corvette.

I had 4 cyl mode in my WK Grand Cherokee Hemi. One time I managed to get 16 whole mpg out of it!

You can’t pull that off in Texas. Going 65 will get you killed, going 75 (Interstate Highway speed limit) would probably get you under 30 MPG.

I’m willing to bet you could get that number up to 40 with a little hypermiling.

Not just Corvettes either, I got 30mpg in my 1994 Z28 thanks to 3.42 gears and 6 speed. And that’s without 4 cylinder mode!

Used to work with a guy who daily drove a C5. As he said, “using the brakes wastes gas because you waste the gas you used to get up to speed in the first place and then have to use more fuel to accelerate after using them.”

He argued that since nearly all roads are built in a way that at the speed limit a Corvette can run at 6/10, he could get better mileage from a light and aero Corvette than a V6 family sedan.

On the county roads that we drove to work, my Vibe got 30-31 mpg, he got 28.

But it probably weighed almost a whole Corvette more than a Corvette.*

*I stand to be corrected on this

Considering that your Vibe isn’t a V6 family sedan I think he’s right.

Or maybe that was your point... idk

Something like 4600 lbs vs 3300 lbs.

Full-time 4wd, a 5-speed auto, super heavy all-terrain tires, and the aerodynamics of a brick, didn’t exactly help mileage.

Yes, it is my point, that if a compact 4-cyl hatch was barely beating him...

Kinja'd!!!

This was towards the conclusion of my trip up from El Paso to Albuqueruqe on Sunday in my 93 LT1/6 speed vette with the cruise set between 83 and 85 most of the trip and that approximately five mile stretch with the cruise set a lot faster than that. The dash display is usually within +/- .5mpg of what I calculate at fill ups. I’d like to think the car could break 30 over a tank if I were willing to drive slower than 80. This trip marked an all-time high for the car, as it usually returns between 27-78mpg on this trip. The vette does have a fresh oil change, air filter, fuel filter, ignition wires and spark plugs. I guess a freshly tuned up LT1 is a happy LT1.

No they can’t be macanamera. :P But theres no rule that says they can’t be fuel efficient sports cars now unlike the old days.
