How do I find out information about a plot of land from the city?

I found something amazing: a nice dirt area with lots of little hills that’s perfect for RC car driving. But around here any plot of land that isn’t occupied by buildings or is a park is off-limits. Even though I didn’t see any signs around the perimeter of the area saying it’s private property, I don’t want to chance it. How would I go about getting information about a plot of land from the city it’s in?

Somewhat related picture.

how mad can they get over an RC car?

ususally you can enter “townname property viewer” and it will bring you to a page

It’s nearly all public info. Publicrecords.netronline.com should link you eventually to the correct county assessor, most have interactive maps that allow you to work from the location rather than address or owner name.

You’re in Sno county right? Just got to the assessors page.

I’ve heard of people getting kicked off some properties for that.

K, don’t have personal knowledge on that one. Generally, the County assessor has records on properties, and a lot of times there’s a way to access that online. A very quick googling found this (not being snotty with let me google that for you, but being honest that I didn’t dive deep enough to see if it would work easily with an address)

Either way, if that doesn’t work, it does appear that the county assessor’s office would have the information you are looking for.

Most cities allow you to look up plots of land using a database. If there is no signage than the worst that could happen (theoretically) is someone asks you to leave. With RC cars no one is going to get too upset. Bikes and skateboards is another story.

I managed to look up property information. It’s owned by an LLC, but I see no red flags. I should be fine.

I’ve always followed the “it’s better to apologize than ask permission” philosophy. I’d go for it.

Yep, as the prior post stated, each county has an assessors office, which has publicly available records. They should have this information online. If you don’t know the exact address, many assessor office search tools include parcel maps, or you can look up by street name and find the closet address that is nearest your property. I do this all the time as part of my job.

The county has a site for browsing land ownership information.

visionappraisal.com might have your town, but unlikely.

Find the address on google or something, and go to town hall (or city hall). Ask for a “field card” for the property, you might have to pay a few bucks for them to print it for you. That will tell you nearly everything you need to know.

If you are thinking of purchasing and need to know more, you can do a Title Search through a title company to find out if there are any issues with the parcel.
