Since working at a Buick/GMC dealer for a while now and being around and driving multiple Terrains of varying trim levels and MSRPs, I’ve gone from despising them to... liking them.

Kinja'd!!!

My favorite trim is a basic SLE-1 with the 2.4L EcoTec. It’s just a handsome, basic, tall box. Nothing more, nothing less.

Kinja'd!!!

The 2.4L, while a little noisy, makes more than adequate power IMO. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Partial power driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar, 7" touch screen radio with 6 surprisingly decent speakers and steering wheel controls, power windows/locks/mirrors with remote entry, and GM’s driver information system. The only thing missing is the option of a sunroof that higher trims get.

I really don’t know why they’ve grown on me so much. They’re really not anything special at all. Everything about them is old at this point too. Maybe because they’re basic, roomy crossovers not trying act like a hardcore off-roader, nor a sports car or fashion statement like everything else in its class. Just a tall hatchback designed to take 4.5 humans and their associated shit from A to B in comfort.

There’s nothing wrong with liking a vehicle that doesn’t bullshit you about what it is. I can see the appeal of them.

There’s something very refreshing about a car that doesn’t do anything else. One of the reasons I like the Niva so much, nothing there that doesn’t need to be. Now if I could only do more than 5000 miles without having to remove major components...

I see so many of these and their Equinox siblings on a daily basis around here. My former boss had a loaded up V6 Terrain. It was nice!

A coworker has one. Black on black leather with a tech package and I rode in it a couple times. Rides nice, interior is spacious and it doesn’t rattle. They’re pretty nice.

There’s nothing wrong with appreciating an honest car that does what it should and does it well enough. That’s what Oppo is (mostly) about - respect for cars that fit your needs, and for your irrational project car/weekend car.

Especially nowadays where a car has to be luxurious, sporty, and about 10 other things to be considered worth your money.

But do they have smart key access?

Oh yeah, these and the Encore potatoes, can’t keep them on the lot.

Me and the old 3.6 these use don’t get along very well with how many times I’ve been literally burned by them whilst changing the oil filter. Damn catalytic converter.

The fanciest you get with the key is it’s a switchblade with remote functions built in.

Yeah, it’s disappointing how few cars seem to have the smart key, where you unlock by pulling the door handle and lock by pushing a button on the door handle.. It’s one of my favorite features on my RAV4. I’d gladly take it even over features like a power driver’s seat, sunroof, etc.

We test drove one before we got my wife’s CC-5, and found the 2.4 depressingly slow. I do like they way it looks, but if I were to get one it’d have to be a V6.

Well, I also think my brother’s 2.2 Grand Am has more than adequate power so I probably just have incredibly low power standards. 0-60 in 10 seconds is acceptable to me. Hell, the Safari that did it in 14 was juuuust past the point of unacceptable to me.

I felt like my sister’s old 2.2 Cavalier had plenty of power, and I feel that way about our CX-5, which isn’t exactly a power house, but the 2.4 Terrain felt like the gas pedal just made more boise.

For my pile of poo M3, yes it probably was Stockholm syndrome. For the terrain which I had formed an opinion on before actually ever experiencing one, nah.

I had one as a rental. It was decent enough although a little junky compared to more recently-designed GM products. My main complaint is the Bluetooth in GM cars doesn’t always play nice with my phone. I’ve never had issues with any other brand of car and this phone (Moto X Pure). But with GM products, sometimes the phone pairs to the car but music plays out of the phone instead of the stereo, and sometimes if I initiate a call on the phone instead of thru the screen, the audio doesn’t transfer to the stereo. It only ever happens in GM rental cars.
