I wish GM took their hybrid system and applied it with their Turbo I4. Their hybrid system adds around 60hp (so around 330hp total) and it would help negate any turbo lag from the gas engine.

It’s the perfect replacement for the NA V6 in the Cadillac engine line up as provides more performance, fuel economy and technology for the brand perception (even though that V6 is a fantastic engine)

I would like to see what more GM can do with its hybrid technology since it really seems to be cutting edge.

The 2017 CT6 hybrid is supposed to come out this year with a 2.0l turbo and 2 evt motors making 335hp and giving 400 miles of total range, plus have a plug in.

Oooh, that makes me feel better! Good for GM! I hope they put it in the CTS and XT5 too

I feel like a 2.0T isn’t enough displacement for that size of a car (meaning the engine would go into boost enrichment more often), although the hybrid system will help counteract that.

(My guideline for whether a downsized-and-turbocharged engine makes sense is... would this car’s base model be fine with that size engine without the turbo? If so, it makes sense. Essentially this means that turbochargers would be restricted to high performance models, with that test, but it means that real-world performance remains good.)

I also wonder what the thermal efficiency of, say, an Atkinson-cycle variant of the 3.6 (or 3.0) V6 would be. GM obviously went with the 2.0T in the CT6 Hybrid, but some of that might have been technological perception as well as test performance. And, a V6 hybrid might’ve had even better performance, even with Atkinsonization...

I thought about an Atkinson V6 as well. But it’s more important that Cadillac appear to stay modern (as stupid as that is) and a lot of competition is going to 2.0T hybrids for the middle or upper engine.

Luxury cars are all about keeping up with the Joneses
