Narcotics cause hiccups in some people...you may be in for a rough few days :(

Plug your ears and drink a glass of water.

Ears? I thought you had to plug your nose.

Beats me. I’ve been doing that trick since I was a kid. It always works for me. But it’s not easy to pull off.

Kidding. Please don’t post pics. Please feel better soon.

I recently had 27 staples (NSFW Staples Picture) , so I feel/sympathize with your pain. I didn’t have hiccups with my surgery, but I had a really bad string of coughing attacks for the first week.

My advice: hold a pillow against the stapled area with light pressure if you feel the hiccups coming on. It will lessen the contractions a bit and it won’t hurt as badly. It’ll still hurt but it will be far less painful than nothing at all.

Also, when they go to remove the staples, make sure you have someone experienced doing it. Having the new nurse wiggle them out was not a pleasant experience and I wish I would have known she was the new nurse ahead of time.

I hope you have a quick and speedy recovery, and that the staples aren’t in too long! Best of luck.

Hold your breath for as long as you can multiple times. That usually does the trick for me after about 3 times they are gone.

No fun at all. Only positive part is don’t have to do a thing to go pee, got a tub for that, ans got a bag for the poo. But not eating isn’t making much poo.

I’m gonna wait a while before talking a beer.

Ouch! My wife, a former bartender, always prescribes a lime wedge doused with bitters as a hiccup cure. I swear it works every time.

Taken orally, of course, in case you were inclined to... try something... else....

EDIT: Just realized you are most likely in a hospital, where they probably don’t have bitters. Or lime wedges. Sorry.

At least you have internet access! What did they carve out of your insides that justifies 24 staples? Nevermind, I see you posted earlier.

I had peritonitis at 13 years old and had 2 surgeries. The second time I think it took 34 staples to close me up. There would have been more, but they had to leave a tube sticking out at the bottom...
