Kinja'd!!!

I saw one of these the other day at Starbucks and I was like, “wow I did not know Lexus made a convertible IS”

Looking every bit like the Toyota Camry Solaris that died in 2008, the Lexus IS 250 C is a real car that Lexus began offering in the IS line in 2010 and stopped unceremoniously in 2015

The main distinction lest you think this is actually a badge engineered Solaris convertible is that the IS 250 C has a folding metal hard top, that and of course it is RWD instead of FWD and was offered with a stick.

Used ones are now going for around $20k, I for one find that intriguing. In fact here is a 2010 with a manual for $23k, name me another RWD, V6, 6-speed metal folding roof convertible you can have for that price?

My favourite design detail is the sharkfin on the windshield.

Yep, I forgot it was a thing either.

But it’s not a badge engineered Solara. That IS is based on Toyota’s RWD N-platform, while the Solara is based on their much larger FWD K-platform.

TLDR; The IS is unrelated to the Solara.

you missed this paragraph I guess

The tepid IS250, now with more weight and complexity. But for cruising a beach boulevard, why not.

Just incase a Miata is too fast for you, here’s a 3800lb convertible with only 205hp.

The biggest key difference was trunk space.

For buyers of 4-seat convertibles, golf or shopping bags become important. That IS had space for none of those when the top was down. The Solara can fit 4 carry golf bags easily top up or down.

My dad bought a Solara after looking at the BMW, Audi, Lexus, Volvo and then finally the Toyota. He golfs 3 times a week and he and his neighbors golf as couples one of those times, so they drive together.

It’s a unique subset, but it does exist.

Don’t mind me, I just do not care for convertibles of any sort

Oh yes, the IS C. The “replacement” for the infamous SC430. For some reason in the early 2010s, luxury brands everywhere decided they needed a small-mid-sized coupe and convertible in their lineup. We got some interesting cars out of it.

6 cyl stick shift 2010 hardtop convertible you say? Oh I dunno, how about this 2010 BMW 335i M Sport with 300 hp and red leather seats for 17 grand?

Not sure what happened to the center caps on the wheels but otherwise looks to be in fine shape.

CTS Coupe. The XLR was a luxury roadster, like the SL or the SC430, and it didn’t last into the 2010s. I’m talking purely on coupes and convertibles based upon already established sedans.

okay, I was scratching my head thinking, was there a CTS-V convertible?
