Tomorrow is district contest; I can dress a little more casual. (Always tux for UIL, but that’s in two weeks.)

High contrast?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

What event? And you have to go with the bad guy suit of course. Black jacket, shirt, and tie!

Unless blue is your school color. I think the school colored shirt with a different color tie looks good. With this I’d say yellow.

Between those two combos imo the yellow tie one has the edge, either one OK tho

Yeah, what’s it for? Also “UIL”? Maybe that should be in the wheelhouse but atm I’m not finding it...

I’d go with the yellow one. White ties have very few occasions where they look good.

I would vote for the top. Not only does the contrast work, but the tie has a pattern. Solid ties have never done it for me, and the blue on light blue looks to me like it clashes. Then again, what do I know?  My formal and casual wardrobes consist of a limited number of colors so that almost everything can match with anything else, and I only wear a tie to work two days a year.

Navy and gold are our school colours, and the colour of the shirt actually matches the pinstripe of the suit fairly well. I just wasn’t certain if the yellow of the tie was too obnoxious or if the stripes would be too much with the pinstripes; hence the solid, sky-blue alternative. Thanks for your input!

This is the first suit I have bought with a pattern, so I am used to matching patterned ties with solid shirts and jackets. Patterned suit + patterned tie was unfamiliar enough to me that I had to ask for opinions. Thanks for the input!

It’s actually solid sky blue, but the camera washed it out. But your vote for yellow is recognized. ^_^

No. 1. White ties are for summer. Do you have a striped tie with blue in it?

I’m the director/conductor of a middle school band. My students actually wear navy-over-white vests and bowties, so in a sense, I might look less formal than them!

Ditch the blue shirt and go with a white shirt amd a bright tie. That yellow tie might not look too bad with a white shirt. With black suits you either go white or black shirt. Maybe a light gray shirt with a bright tie. Other colors make it look like you’re selling cell phones at the mall.

Yellow!

You know it’s easier when you only have two ties like me and one is a Christmas tie.

As long as the tie isn’t too wacky and you’re not mixing vertical with horizontal stripes, I’ve always thought patterns mix fine. As a gag, I would love to have a suit with horizontal pin stripes, just to see what folks would say on April Fool’s day.

Hmmm the picture changes...wondering if the white tie would work better actually?

There could be an argument for dressing up the ladder at least one notch higher than the youngsters...till everyone maxes out at tails of course...unsolicited free comment and worth every penny!

Just playing off a point your post brings up

imo you can’t go wrong with any of the above

Break a leg! as they say :)

“What’s wrong? Stripes are SLIMMING. Isn’t that what everyone says?”

Of course, the REAL challenge is actually FINDING said suit. ^_^

Vote noted! My tie rack is ridiculous; I own more ties than any man has a legitimate reason to.

It’s a band thing? Go with the yellow. Band teachers have a duty to look as goofy as possible at all times.

The colour choice in the shirt has more to do with matching what my students are wearing, which are blue vests and bowties. But your vote is noted, and your advice is considered. ^_^

I have many striped ties, at least one that is black with light blue stripes. But it’s on the wide end, and wide isn’t as in right now. :/

Counterpoint: the white actually isn’t white, but light blue. So, black suit with blue pinstripes, navy-ish shirt, sky blue tie.

Okay, I see the blue in the second tie now that I’m on my computer instead of my phone. Still, I think the first one is stronger. I think the black/light blue tie would look smashing, especially with a dark suit. I wouldn’t worry about the width so much, unless it’s 1970s wide. You’ll have your jacket on anyway, right? And it will be buttoned, unless you unbutton while conducting. I’m not at all concerned about a striped tie with a pinstripe suit. That’s fashionable today, and your suit stripes are subtle. A lighter (not white) shirt would also work well with a darker tie, and let you be freer with your color choices, though I read that you are going for the school colors.

Gotcha. I was thinking you were a student. You’re the teacher, so no one gives a shit. I wore a nice navy Hugo Boss suit to a school function a few weeks ago. No one cared. Well, I got a compliment from one of the moms, but that’s another story...

yea option 2. looks classier. I get the matching thing to keep the blue shirt but i think a bold color like that and a bold tie is too much.
