Find me the BEST anti-tailgating sticker.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m done getting followed up the ass by people who think that FIVE OVER the limit isn’t enough, and after a little rage and passing on the shoulder tonight (to be fair, he brake checked me) I’d like to add a little warning to the back of my car.

Die cut stickers are best, or regular old bumper stickers so long as I can have a silver background to blend it into my car better.

Find the best and post them below.

And FUCK TAILGATERS.

EDIT: Here’s the video. Go ahead and tell me what I did right/wrong.

Here’s a good one:

Kinja'd!!!

Life’s too short to get angry about how people drive. Some people tailgate, some people drive slow in the left lane, some people pass on the shoulder. Just relax and drive defensively. I find that people with stickers telling others how to drive are usually the worst drivers.

The best is none. No one who is tailgating will ever stop because of a tacky sticker. If anything they’ll purposely get even closer.

Let me unnersand this...You admitted to rage and passing on the shoulder because someone brake checked you (which implies you were probably tailgating that person or they were retaliating for your brake check).

Not speaking for what that person did or whether it was wrong, but if you were road raging, passing on the shoulder, or doing something that might elicit a brake check, I’m not going to participate in helping you find a douchey bumper sticker, but I will tell you you were doing stupid shit. Again, maybe that other jackwagon was doing something wrong too, but I don’t have a mode to communicate with them, I do with you.

The rest of us that share the road with you would like to tell you that ‘an eye for an eye’ is not meant to be a valid strategy, especially when you wipe out others along with your own self.

A. 5 over is not enough (I won’t tailgate you, but I will pass you if I can do so legally).

B. Someone rear ends you with that sticker on, it seems like someone would be able to make the argument that your malicious driving caused the crash, if not fully abrogating their responsibility, then at least lessening it.

Well figure its on a 2 lane road with limited passing zones and somewhat heavy traffic on a road that goes from 25, to 45, to 35, to 25, and I;m doing 5+ over the entire time, except the times I slowed down when the limit dropped and maayyyyyybe slowed down a bit more than I normally would have, because of 5+ minutes of having my ass ridden without my hair being pulled.

I’m all for speeding, but don’t try to force ME to do YOUR speed when I literally cannot get out of your way.

Hard to drive defensively with a G6 so close up your ass you can’t see his license plate... short of pulling over to let them pass, WHICH I DID, but then he brake checked me.

I’m tired of fuckbags in this world going unchecked when they need a slap to the head. He’s lucky I didn’t PIT his ass and beat him with my tire iron.

He rode my ass for miles. I waved him off, slowed down, sped up. He never got the hint.

I pulled over to let him pass since he was TOO MUCH OF A PUSSY to pass me legally on the two lane road we were on. After I got back behind him HE caught up to slower traffic then brake checked me when I caught back up. Not wanting to slam on the brakes, I simply went around him.

There you go. Full story. Dashcam video to follow tomorrow, probably.

Pulling over was a good start. Doing so in order to tailgate them was dumb. Too many people carry guns where I live to partake in such fuckery.

I’ve had people tailgate me while riding an old motorcycle (which actually poses a threat to my safety) and going the speed limit. I usually just try to let them get as far in front of me as possible. I try to prevent escalation as I usually have a handgun on me and am comfortable in my masculinity. Escalation can lead to very unwanted outcomes. I enjoy driving/riding/living too much to let drivers upset me. Of all the things to get worked up about...

I was thinking about this this morning. I was hoping there was a sticker that said “My cars brakes are better than yours”

I don’t brake check anymore. I realized it was way too dangerous and puts me at risk. And I was always way too angry when I did it. Seeing as I live in Texas I don’t want to escalate a traffic encounter to something deadly involving a wannabe gunslinger.

Now my strategy is to stay as right as I can, and if I get a tailgater I let off the cruise/throttle. Now that’s WAY more effective/safe/mature than brake checking.

Kinja'd!!! "Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)
02/21/2017 at 23:01, STARS: 0

I did not say I pulled back behind him to tailgate. Far from it, in fact. I was MANY car lengths behind when he hit the brakes, and slowed ABRUPTLY so I drove around him on the right.

I might have overreacted, true, but better to keep mobile than to come to a complete stop and have him get out of his car with a gun, as you eluded to.

Kinja'd!!! "Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)
02/21/2017 at 23:04, STARS: 1

Exactly. I don’t brake check either. I may downshift and slow to the exact speed limit to try and get the message across. Spray my washers if the speed is high enough to carry the spray on their windshield. SPEED off in hopes they’ll fade away...

But he never got the hint.

I kept to my speed and when he had the opportunity to pass, where there was no oncoming traffic, he didn’t.

He WANTED confrontation, it seemed. Well he’s gonna get it, in the form of a uniformed police officer at his door.

Yeah that guy had a chip on his shoulder.

I wish police would take traffic behavior more seriously instead of just writing speeding tickets (that is at least what they do around here). This morning I watched a truck merge behind me, cutting off an 18 wheeler. The 18 wheeler honked, rightfully so, and the truck driver slowed way down, practically brake checking the 18 wheeler. People have no idea how much danger they put themselves and others in with their vindictive temper tantrums.

I’m very non-confrontational by nature, but that being said I have no idea how I’d react in your situation, so I won’t be judging you. You felt like you were in a dangerous situation and had to escape, I get that. It’s easy to sit behind a computer monitor and tell others what to do when we’re rational and calm and have plenty of time to react, but we all have different instincts. I guess the best we can do is make sure we don’t stoop to their level and get home to our loved ones safe.

Its okay, I’m not bitter or anything about it, and I like the criticism. Oddly enough the final part of it all happened just a few blocks from home.

I COULD have followed him more or pulled over again, but I went home. I didn’t want to deal with him anymore.

The more I think about it though and discuss it here the more I realize how WRONG he was and how he should probably be taught a lesson, in the way of a nice ticket. Chances are he’s got a record of doing shit like this.

The people who tangle with semis are on a whole ‘nother level. Everytime I see a youtube video of someone cutting in front of a truck to prove a point or rage or whatever I’m just flabbergasted that they’d risk that. I once ACCIDENTALLY cut off a truck and the air horn scared me SO MUCH knowing I was that close to certain death by squashing.

I got brake checked for the first time while on the first LeMons Rally. Not really sure what possesses people to do that. In my context, yes, I was following definitely close enough to be tailgating, which is a thing that happens sometimes, but in my defence I was doing about 5mph over the limit, and this black Golf is moving far too slowly coming up an on-ramp, so I shoulder check and move to the left lane, and as I’m doing this, the Golf merges all the way across to the left lane, still going way too slowly to merge at a speed I would consider safe. I have to brake to avoid rear-ending them, and so I end up in that uncomfortably close spot. Usually in situations like this, I’ll sit uncomfortably close for 10 - 15 seconds, running the white line so I know I’m in the wing mirror, and then either back off or go around on the right. But after all of 10 seconds this guy(?) steps on the brake. Not just a gentle flash of the brake lights, but a noticeable firm deceleration. I have to brake HARD not to hit the Golf. Traffic that merged behind the Golf is now caught up because the Golf was doing about 10 under the limit, so I can’t get around. I stay about two lengths behind, for 30 seconds, then he does it again, like seriously hammers the brakes, and I lock mine up to avoid him. My sister screams from the passenger seat. A gap opens up in the right lane and I mat the throttle to get by. I nearly expected him to give chase.

Seriously, when you’ve got this thing in your mirror:

i got a local out here that i mess with on a near daily basis. i try to not antagonize the guy, would hate to see him end up upside down in a ditch. hard not to though, when the guy drives like a jerk, and that i can easily pull him in old reliable. i been leaving earlier just to not be on the road at the same time as the guy......... i just encounter him now, later, on the safer, two lane section of my drive, where the cops hang out. the guy drives a new mustang, and also a kia sportage.i know the guy is probably just late getting to work. its just a matter of time.........

I can’t tell how fast anyone’s going; I can only get a sense of relative speeds between vehicles. There’s obviously a disagreement about speed going on here, but I can’t tell if you were indeed going too slow, or if they were intending to go too fast.

The Pontiac’s driving does kinda look like he might have been mindlessly following too closely, rather than aggressively trying to bully you. I dunno. Hard to say. He might have been bullied by the Suburban, and was hoping that the Suburban’s overtake would “wake you up”.

But even if you were going plenty fast enough, and thus did not need any “waking”, I think you let him get the best of you when you swerved onto the shoulder to get behind him and give him a taste of his own medicine. You fell for his “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you”, when you probably should have just ignored him and held your ground.

I had a similar encounter not too long ago when I let a tailgater get the best of me. I was going maybe 3 or so over the speed limit with the other guy on my bumper for a while. He finally decided to pass, and I’m sorry to say that I accelerated. Not to block him, but to irritate him by making his maneuver take a long time to complete (no oncoming traffic BTW). I also wanted to tailgate him for a moment just to see how HE likes it.

He came to a full stop right there in the road and shouted at me for a minute, while I tried my best to ignore him and wait him out. He got going again, and I could tell that even from the front, he was copying my turns (signaling AFTER I signaled my turn). By now I had stopped tailgating him. I eventually lost him by faking a signal, and after I passed by, in my mirror I saw him turn and leave in the opposite direction. He had finally given up on trying to confront me, and was straying too far from his actual destination.

If it were me, I would have just slowed to the speed approprite for the distance he was following. If that was 30? 20? 10? so be it. It’s for both of our safety that one of us maintains a safe distance.

When they back off, that allows me to pick my speed back up.
