Is it wrong to be tempted to buy this?

Kinja'd!!!

Yea I know I post a lot of cars on here but I don’t care. I value the opinions I get on here. Helps me make decisions. Anyway, here we have a 2009 750iL for $15,988 with 99,000 on the odo. From my research it has a clean history with 55 service records available for it going back to late 2015. I like this gen of 7 Series better than the last. Good buy?

IIRC, every one of these that left the dealer was a lemon.

I don’t really know much about BMWs, but a 99,000 mile 7 series seems like a bad idea.

Its tempting because it appears that it actually had all services done. I would touch this though over an Audi A8 of the same year.

Yes, in fact, according to TFritch(who works on them and many other more expensive cars), a lot of modern BMW’s in general are pile of shit nightmares waiting to happen.

I’d trust an A8 over this without a second thought.

Even with all the service done it’s a high mileage flagship BMW.

For $16k I think you could do better. I mean hell, a 2014 Kia Cadenza gets you the same level of luxury for $2k less with half as many miles while still well within Kia’s 10 year/100,000 mile warranty

“55 service records available for it going back to late 2015" — is that a typo? Although I know that one trip can result in multiple services (and thus service records), 55 service records in a little over 15 months seems a tad bit excessive to me. Also, what about the records for 2009-late 2015?

Am I reading it right that it had 55 services in a bit over a year? Because that doesn’t sound like a car you should want to buy...

Not me. What puts me off about the A8 is the debt inducing aluminium body that would cost a literal fortune to fix and a hassle to find someone to fix.

I feel like I recall reading the 4.4T is an absolute turd of an engine. Plus the whole $100,000+ car still has part prices for a $100,000+ car even though it’s now worth as much as a base model Chevy Sonic.

Oh yea the Cadenza is a great deal for the features you get. But all the ones I seen have long since sold that I liked. I would gladly go for a Cadenza. Im not a badge snob and would rather get the same for less than a badge before anything else.

I meant 5 records going from 09-2015. From what I can see its mostly electrical stuff dealing with warnings lights, turn signals etc.

Thought about it, but even though the LS has that famous Lexus reliability, LS460's in the $12-$16 grand range have tons of miles which is how they are in the price range. From what I’ve seen its usually over 140 thousand, with extreme examples I’ve seen pushing 175.

I’m not really familiar with the 4.4 turbo. I would have to look into that. I think what gets me with these cars, especially the 7 Series is the tech and features thats in them. Im eyeing a Equus as well that I might post later.

Just google N63B44 engine problems, a whole host of sources come up. This one included.

I’d avoid anything on the flagship level from Ze Germans. They’re nothing but money sapping.

Why not? I only like certain cars from Hyundai/Kia anyway like the Veloster Turbo, Cadenza and the Equus, though the Equus and Cadenza are the only ones I would buy.

Ok, not as bad, but still a lot. That means it needed service 55 times in 72ish months. Do you want to service an aging $100k BMW every six weeks or so? And let’s be honest, that service rate will only be getting more frequent as it gets older. This has stay away written all over it. My wallet just jumped out of my pocket and hid under the bed.

Yeah but who cares when it’s the size of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier? The 750 is not a sports car, and I’m going to wager that it’s not fun to drive in the traditional way. It certainly isn’t going to be fun to drive when it’s sitting in the dealer service bay for weeks at a time.

I agree with that, but I don’t think a Cadenza is really a good compromise, unless it’s a complete change from it’s platform mate.

I’ll admit a Genesis or an Equus is a better fit, but a Cadenza is a better buy.

Lets be honest though, if your search started with “2009 750li” your search started in the wrong place.
