On the topic of front plates, does anyone remember the guy on here a few years ago who was trying to argue that he should be exempt from having a front plate since drilling holes would affect the structural rigidity of his bumper and make his vehicle less safe?

Like the cops or the traffic judge would just say, “Oh. Well in that case, let’s just ignore the law requiring front plates.” Of course, at least my experience in Texas is that they only use the absence of a front plate to pull you over if they think you are sketchy or doing something that seems sketchy.

When I lived in Texas, neither of my BMWs had front plates and didn’t have any issues.

I have never had any issues in my Jag (or, before that, my other “nice” cars). However, I have been pulled over in my Mustang for no front plate — until the cop saw I was too old to be out hooning (little did he know), told me it was the law to have a front plate, and then said, “But you know and I know that you’re not going to put one on there, so have a nice day.”

I use the “my bumper doesn’t have holes drilled” line when I get pulled over for no front plate (about once a year). So far no ticket.
Structural integrity huh.... Might have to try that
