What redundant car do you want?

Kinja'd!!!

I have limited space and limited money, so having more than one car is questionable, let alone more than one car that serve the same purpose. Despite this, I find myself wanting a Volvo V70, usually a V70R. Often an XC70 as well. I already have a wagon from the mid 2000s, so it would be fairly silly to get a second wagon, around the same age, That was designed to do almost exactly what mine does (excluding the R), and likely marketed towards the same demographic. Still, that doesn’t stop me from wanting one.

Kinja'd!!!

This is partly because I was fairly seriously considering a V70 or XC70 as a replacement for my Blazer, in the event I got something more modern instead of getting a $1500 850 or 740 wagon or something. I was also looking at V50s, since they are much more plentiful in my area than V70s.

Kinja'd!!!

I half-heartedly want one of those too, but it’s more of a mild interest than an actual want. V70s though, especially the Rs, are a definite want. Even an S60, which I believe is one of the best, if not the best sedan design from the 2000s. So what about the S60 instead? Well, it would be even harder for me to justify, since I almost always feel obligated to have the wagon/hatch version of something if available, because it’s so much more practical. So there. What about the rest of you?

Kinja'd!!!

Here’s some more Volvo pictures.

I occasionally check Craigslist et al for Preludes even though I have 3.

I look for Legacy GT wagons and Spec.Bs too, I was very focussed on Volvos while writing this post and I forgot about that. Another Legacy is even more redundant than another wagon.

I want a RT-4WD Civic wagon to go with my FWD one. Also an EF Si hatch and a CR-X Si. At that point I might as well throw in an EF sedan to round out the collection. If I wanted to be really cool I’d import one of the rare RT-4WD sedans. Not sure where they were sold, but I know of at least one guy in Australia with one.

If you look hard enough, you can find a V50 T5 that has the turbo I5 and AWD with a manual.

I want one of those so bad, even though the back seats are tight and I’d want more power and RWD. I did own a 2.4i V50, and it was a great little car. I kind of miss it even though I replaced it with a more fun to drive car.

Wagovans are so cool. I would snag one if I ever saw one for sale that wasn’t either rusty as hell, slammed, or both. It’s usually both. And also like $4000. I had no idea there were RT-4WD sedans, that’s really cool

I really want a Blazer. No reason. I have an S10, which is a Blazer with a bed. But my inner 12-year-old still thinks the Blazer Xtreme is cool. Embarrassing, I know.

I can relate. I want my Blazer back, I miss it more than I thought I would. Despite the interior rattles, bad fuel economy, and lots of suspension work that should probably be done. I might offer to buy it back from my friend whenever he decides to get something else, but I really shouldn’t.

I can’t find any info on them, but I know they were sold in a select few markets. They’re apparently pretty rare.

Yeah most of the wagovans around here have been passed around by ricers like an STD. I was fortunate to get ahold of mine before the ricers did so other than maintenance stuff it was totally stock when I got it.

We bought Clover back in 2004, went all over BC and AB in the westy, drove it every time we could, to and from our wedding, honeymoon, it was part of the family.

Seriously hardest decision to sell, we had it until 2012, we had our son, and knew another little one was coming.. I wasn’t happy with the rear bench seat for kids, it was small alreay camping with the two of us and the dog, and the flaming van risk was always there..

Put it on thesamba with decent pics and details and sold it for the same $$ we bought it for a few days later. New owner came up from Seattle and drove it home. We waved it out of our driveway, went back into the house and felt sad.

Selling it let us buy our trailer, and keep camping with the family. Maybe there will be another Westy for us one day - but deep down I doubt it.

So if you ever do get one- NEVER SELL IT.

I still remember exactly where in 1979 I saw my first Vanagon, and the color of it. I’d love to find one the same color and go to the same neighborhood and take a picture of it in that spot.

My mother had one of the first ones sold in the US back in 1980; as I recall it was a factory demo unit and you could still see the promo advertising under the paint.

In 1986 I bought a 1983.5 wasserboxer, one of the first one of those sold (and yes, it did have head gasket problems from day one of my ownership). Some idiot made an attempt at an illegal U-turn and I totaled it; on the bright side I got $8,500 for it even though I bought it for $6,300.

My mother bought one of the last ones sold in the US, a 1990 Carat and drove it for 12 years. I was supposed to buy it from her, but I was laid off from my 6-figure job and could barely pay rent, so buying another car was out of the question. It was in near perfect shape, and the guy that bought it was stunned by the condition. She would have kept it, but the third garage on their house had been converted to storage/workshop space and they didn’t want to leave it outside.

I still have several dozen models/toys, ranging from 1/87 scale to approx 1/20. I also have a big metal briefcase with sales brochures from 1980 to 1991, from the US and other places around the world as well as tons of other factory literature. In there are a number of NOS 1987 brochures from when I worked at the local VW dealer. They were tossing them out since the 1988s were rolling out.

If I become stupidrich I’ll have a warehouse full of these things - single cab, double cab, airport follow me vehicle (I had one in FSX), panel van, etc.

If I do get another one I will not part with it under any circumstances. If it means rent/house payment or Vanagon I’ll just live in the Vanagon...

Sometimes I think I should’ve gotten an E93 M3 convertible instead of my E92 335xi because I like convertibles, the M3 has an LSD rear end which would be decent in winter with snow tires, and the wonderful NASCAR engine noise that goes BWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. But then I remember what it would cost to insure and fuel it, and my 335xi is now basically just as powerful with mods.

I wanted one of these so badly when my mom bought her TrailBlazer in 2004. There was a red one on the showroom floor next to a Blazer ZR2 and I remember sitting in both. I had the original brochures for the 2004 Blazer (and the entire lineup) until about 5 years ago.
