It’s the first anniversary of the passing the chap on the left, seen at one of his later public engagements:

Kinja'd!!!

Captain Eric Brown, late of the Royal Navy.

He flew 487 different types of plane, a figure never reached before and one that will never be reached again. He also carried the most carrier takeoffs and landings of any pilot including the first involving jet aircraft, flew most types of Luftwaffe planes including the near-suicidal Me 163, interviewed Hermann Goering, met Hitler’s personal pilot Hanna Reitsch, wrote an autobiography and several books including “Wings of the Luftwaffe”, worked as a test pilot with Focke Wulf despite having shot down two of their planes early in the war and was giving lectures until just before his death.

Other than that, he achieved little in life.

The BBC did a documentary on him.

The stuff his generation did out of passion or a love of their country is, well, there isn’t a word to describe them.

He will always be a very remarkable person.
