Next project in my saga: replacing the sewer line. The plumbing company and city works department were here at 8:30 to start work. The city used a jackhammer to open the street; the rest has been on the plumbers. Casualties include some flower bulbs I had planted last fall. They also tried to move a flower pot, which fell apart and scattered the hen and chicks inside all over a dirt pile. My grandma had a field about 4 by 6 feet of them, and it’s down to 4 plants. I found them all, and they are now in a bucket safely in my kitchen.

I have to do this eventually too. It may be the one thing that finally kills the weed tree that keeps blocking the sewer line.

My favorite yard was when I lived in the southwest and it was all rocks. No mowing required.

I almost miss doing that work. I don’t miss smelling like sewer juice every day at all though.

I remember those days too. Start work in the morning and dig, dig, dig. Stop and take lunch when it starts smelling funny. Make connection and inspection after lunch. Wait for inspection. Hope inspection happens on time. Later work like mad to backfill & compact and pack up/clean up.

It looks like you’re well into five figures there.

Make sure they do a good job of bedding and compacting. It’s easy to forget or try to skimp once the connection is made. Your foundation will thank you later.
