Would anybody happen to know how these fuel pressure regulators work internally?

Kinja'd!!!

My jag has been having this problem where it runs really rich at idle to the point where it’ll stumble and eventually stall and I noticed there’s gas coming out of that little hose that goes from the fuel rail to regulator. So what I want to know is does the gas going from that little hose push a diaphragm inside the regulator to dictate the fuel pressure?

The line up top is a vacuum line. If it has gas coming out of it then the diaphragm inside is bad.

+1 what crowmolly said. If there’s gas coming out of that rubber hose then you need a new regulator.

It looks like a bosch unit. Here is one from an engine with two fuel rails.

I AM THE BEST PERSON AT REGULATING FUEL PRESSURE THERE HAS EVER BEEN IN THE HISTORY OF FUEL PRESSURE. YOU’RE NOT GOING TO FIND A MORE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATING PERSON THAN ME. THOSE OTHER FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS, THEY’RE DISASTERS.

Regulators. We regulate any of his line pressure and we’re daaamn good too. But you can’t be any geek off the street. Gotta be handy with the vacuum, earn your keep.

You gotta remove four regulators before you can install a new regulator.

Here’s some actually useful information.

This is the regulator for the fuel injection pressure. If vacuum is high, like at idle the pressure is low. If pressure is low like when floored, pressure is high for power

If gas is coming out the vacuum hose, it is because the diaphram has failed. I’ve see it before.

With this condition, as long as the fuel pump is running, you are dumping fuel into the intake manifold. Buy a new one and install it now. Otherwise you will burn out our catalyst or even burn down your car if you do it on the highway!
