Anyone ever buy one of these DIN cupholders?

Trying to figure out a way to put better cup holders in my Impreza- one of them is too tiny for anything bigger than a Red Bull can, the other is really awkward. Between my coffee mug and water bottle I really would love two cup holders that hold something about the size of a 20oz soda bottle.

These things are all over eBay:

Anyone ever buy one? I can’t find a measurement on the cup holes and want to figure out if it’d work for me before I buy it.

And yes, I do know the mid 1990s Ford Taurus had a very similar device- I used one in another car I had and the cup holes aren’t big enough for what I want.

I believe those are about the same size as the one that pops out of the dash.

subaru cupholders have sucked since the dawn of time.

flimsy, tiny, pull out and cover stereo controls.

sorry subaru, but whoever was in charge of cupholder design clearly was attempting to multitask an design headgaskets. brain too busy to get either task done well.

The one issue I have with any of those is they place liquids in close proximity to dash electronics. Its been a bad combo on many cars.

Stomp on brakes when cut off and immediately pour 3/4 of a Big Gulp down the CD slot and permanently fuse your H/AC controls in place for the rest of time?

They’ve joined the “let’s just put big holes in the center console” club. My wife’s Impreza is like this:

Could be worse.

Not that cupholder... the OTHER one

Looks like it would have the same issues my Dodge Ram’s stock cup holder has. Not enough support, and a really bad location when it completely fails to support said drink. My cup holder ended up getting thrown violently across the parking lot at work (unfortunately it did not break into a million pieces like I would like it to have) and I have sworn off EVER allowing liquids that do not have a screw on cap in my cars ever again. A car is for driving, it is not a mobile dinning room. The headaches from cleaning up after a piss poor cupholder is just not worth it. Best cupholder... your hand, in a parked car, or a table inside a real restaurant.

I had very similar cup holders in my 2000 Jetta and my mom’s 2001 Golf. They do a good job of holding any bottle, can, or cup to 24 oz. The 2001 cup holder was a better design than the 2000, so I switched out the cup holders on my car to the newer design. The ones you have pictured look similar to the 2000 design.

Hmm, didn’t have these in my family’s ‘95 Taurus, just a little storage bin instead (with a cupholder between the front seats instead). Looking at pictures the pull out one seems to be more of a bench seat thing, though I do see shots with both types of cupholders installed.

I did some more looking into this. The one I posted above are not DIN. The cup holders for the Polo, Lupo, and Skoda Fabia are DIN and look less flimsy and cheap then the generic ones. I’d use this. Make sure you get one with 2 cup holders and not one cup holder and a coin tray.

I almost never drink anything in the car, really just use the cup holders for carrying beverages to work. Plus both my water bottle and coffee cup have screw on lids- the coffee cup in fact is so solid that once it fell out and tumbled across the car floor when I went around a corner, and didn’t spill a drop.

Our E38 had similar *confession* I paid Stealership price to keep her stock when they broke.

Just to make sure you’re aware, what the Audi crowd says about them is pretty much right — “they’re not cup holders, they’re cup launchers”

Best wished with the install. They do look good in a car!

Exactly how it happens! The other scenario gets less on the dash when you swerve to avoid a car but dump the drink in your GFs lap and all over the door switches.

My E39 has absolute crap cup holders. Look at them and they will break. Apparently only those big Americans drink in their cars, which boggles my mind that no one drinks coffee on their way to work over there. Any way the ones i bought, (ebay) just fit in a spot before the gear shifter like below and work ok with anything thats not a super size. I know it might not fit the Impreza but there might be one out there that similar that might work.

Lol yep, Big gulp in the middle, beer can in the swing... ‘Merica. To be honest though they are alot stronger than they look. Mine has definitely taken some abuse with people hitting their knees on it all the time.

Putting a Big Gulp in the swing and then doing a holeshot is something you do... once...

I’ll admit, the “big hole in the center console” cup holders are useful. The door pocket bottle holders to prove to be useful, too...

Her car also has those! She keeps a mini umbrella in the driver’s side one.

For some reason, those look better than the cupholders in my Crown Vic. They’re an inch deep, use really crappy foam rubber to attempt to keep cups in place, and will launch a water bottle into the driver’s footwell under even slight cornering.
