Kinja'd!!!

Our father PG just wrote out another great example of why you need to drive everything. I don’t care what reviewers say, what the internet says, or what your buddies say, you need to drive everything! It may not be the best vehicle in its class but if it is in tune with the way you drive then you’ll have a great time harmonizing with it.

The real trick is finding a car that is in a relative key to yours. Maybe you’re a D Minor driver and you find yourself a nice old C Major Camaro. Sure you’ll get along just great other than a few exceptions but eventually you’re going to want to get wild and raise that leading tone, then you’re stuck with a car that you’ve outgrown! Hey, just step up from that C Major Camaro to a D Minor Corvette and all of sudden you can go everywhere you wanted to, maybe get a little frisky with that voice leading!

Sometimes you’re in an unconventional key and need to find something equally weird to work with you. Maybe you’re extremely boring and it takes a completely different tune in order for you to drive in a way that would make Miles Davis blush.

Personally, I like to think that after you dads up every aspect of a vehicle they transform into a composer’s work. The Aventador SV has all kinds of Shostakovich Symphony 11, mvt. 2, part 2 but maybe you personally faun over Debussy.

And simply because I can, have this little clip from The Last Dragon. Faith Prince - “Test Drive.”

I test drove so many cars before buying mine I couldn’t even tell you. If it was built after ‘75 and could be bought for under $8000, chances are I tried one out.

I’ve owned cars from nine different manufacturers, so not only have I driven everything, I’ve owned it.

I have a problem.

Also, I have a very similar picture of my old E30.

Fair enough. I feel bad for him that he couldn’t get a 300ZX or something. He sounded like he just “meh settled” to me on the BMW instead of trudging some more for some other used chances.

That’s something that I struggle with. I want to do a review of my car (1995 Mustang GT), but I feel like I haven’t driven enough other cars to fairly evaluate it. Between personal, family, friends, and work vehicles, I’ve driven a total of maybe 40 different cars & trucks, none of them really comparable to a Mustang.

I would say that it does an awesome job at cornering, but of course it does when you compare it to a PT Cruiser, a Town Car, or a pickup truck. Everybody says that IRS is the cat’s pajamas, but I honestly don’t know what I’m missing out on. Someone else might review the same car and be inclined to declare the solid axle as awfully limiting.

I also agree with being open to everything. I actually get skeptical of “car guys” who throw the “I only drive *insert brand* and nothing else will do”... Sometimes brands change, look at the progression of Korean cars.

Also, owning and spending time with specific cars gives you a much more legitimate opinion, which makes it ok to talk about something you hate if you lived with it for a period, without just sounding like a brand or model-racist.

A Lotus Eclat? (I’m just curious)

No. Actually, not a single Lotus that I can remember.

Looks like I’m a liar.
