I worked for a guy in college who was just like this guy. Wasn’t quite as far gone, but similar. He was a Vietnam vet with blood pressure issues and he would get loopey every once in a while. Lots of great stories.
There was a shooting inside the mall where our store was once. We could hear the shots, and then people started running. He takes a handgun out of his bag, hands it to me, then runs towards the shooting. I was only eighteen, and didn’t own a handgun, but luckily did know how to handle firearms (he didn’t know that though). There were customers in the store who saw the whole thing and are now looking at me like wtf is going on. People were running around screaming, so I told everyone to get in our back room. He comes back in about ten minutes and yells, “some fucking gangbanger shot his dick off.” They ended up having to clear the whole mall because the guy’s buddy took off with the gun. The cop who was on patrol came by the next next and thanked my boss for the help. Apparently he helped wrestle the guy to the ground. He was a great boss and one crazy bastard.

It was awesome. He came in one day with his face all beat up. He said a bobcat attacked him in his backyard. He wasn’t a drinker, and he lived in an area with bobcats so I was inclined to believe him. He still met with customers all day with his eyes blackened and face all cut up. He was tall, skinny, kind of goofy looking, and very friendly, so by looking at him wouldn’t think he was a hardass.
