In what is generally a style that deeply offends me (coupe-ish 4 door) that seems to be the best executed one. Similarly, S5 > M4.

It’s also the most distinctive Audi which is why I like it. A3/4/6/8 getting more homogeneous. No comment on their SUVs.

I think Mercedes is last place in design, and Audi and BMW generally pass the torch between each other. The current 5 series is outscored, at least for me, by the A6/8. Even the bog-standard A5, for me, looks better than the BMW 4 series, which is a very well-styled car. The current 7 series might as well be invisible, and the S class has gotten worse. IMHO.

Counterpoint:
Swoopy coupe-ish sedans are fine as long as they are hatchbacks, for added practicality. Audi A7, A5 Sportback, BMW 4 GC, Porsche Panamera = good. BMW 6 GC, MB CLS = silly.
The M4 roasts the S5. The S5 competes with the 440i. The RS5 is the M4 equivalent.

The first gen CLS AMG is one of my favorite cars, styling-wise. The non-AMG front end is a little weird because the bumper is too slim compared to the rest of the car, but the AMG is just right. To me, at least.
It’s long and low and swoopy, and it’s my favorite “coupe” Mercedes of that era, mostly because the CLK and CL of the early aughts were bulbous.
The current CLS is much more meh to me, and the BMW 6 GC has nice proportions but just doesn’t look special enough.

I agree that the AMG looks better than the stock car, but I never like that design. Second gen a bit better, but there are many other cars I’d rather have for that sort of money.

I love me the first gen CLS. Don’t really like the second. It’s too chunky & blocky where the first gen has the high shoulders but feels more lithe and stretched out looking.
The only things I don’t like about the first gen CLS AMG are the steering wheel and nav screen have both aged rather poorly.

I like the A7/S7/RS7 sedans a lot.
If I have a family, I’ll want a CPO S7 with Nardo grey/Sepang Blue, Black Pack and Saddle Brown diamond stitch interiors.
