What should have taken 30 minutes took an hour, why?
I thought I had an oil filter wrench, but I did not. I looked for 15 minutes, then called friends. After 15 minutes of calling I sourced one. I did chock the back wheels too. I’m going paint them & put sand on the wet paint for grip soon.

You can’t just reach under there without jacking it up? Will it not clear for a catch pan?

I made some out of 2x6s for when I used to change oil in all the cars we had, just cut them to different lengths and stacked them.

It be too tight for me to fit under it without it up. The catch pan cleared easily, my face wouldn’t.

Please use jack stands. That style regardless of weight rating can pancake.

I trust that more for some reason, I can’t help but picture the ramps collapsing or the car falling off and falling on me and pinning me or killing me

I have used those types of ramps quite a bit. I usually put the end of the ramp in a control joint so they don’t slide on the floor when trying to drive up onto them. Now I just use a jack and jack stands since my cars don’t have enough approach angle to go up ramps.

I mean, it’s not like a 2x6 is going to just fall apart. They were stored inside the garage, so I felt plenty safe using them.

To be clear, you’re suggesting using the combination of the two? I have to do sway bar end links on my car next weekend and every thing I read suggested the use of ramps.

I say throwing up a set if jack stands is a must for any type of lifting short of a professional lift. These ramps are awesome I have nothing against using them but always jack stand in case they were to collapse and a wheel chock behind the wheels on the ground + e brake on. Some of the new ramps look really good and are rated crazy high but at the same time typically made in a 3rd world country. The older sorta thin 2nd, 3rd hand me down you don’t know who done what with them looking deals are where it gets me really worried. Either way a set of jack stands can be purchased for about $30 bucks so worth it to me.

My dad has those metal style ramps. I ended up getting poly ones after having a similar experience. And I’m right there with you - I always ramp the car for an oil change - I don’t fit otherwise.

I thinking of putting grip tape on them or sand on wet paint. My drain plug is also on the back of the oil pan so I can get more out.

I would say that painting your rear wheels and then putting sand on the wet paint will look odd, but it’s a Juke - you can’t really make it any worse...
