I parked in the wrong spot for about two hours last night. Today is a wash day even though it is going to rain.

What model of e90 is that? I’m in the market for a second car and am thinking about another e90.

It is a 2011 335 xDrive Sedan. It has the N55. I HIGHLY recommend it. The N54 had it’s issues in the beginning, the N55 is bullet proof. My wife made me get the xDrive when we lived up north as she said “No Way” to RWD. Now I live in Houston (rolls eyes). The engines has plenty of power stock (300-sh) and with a few mods that are around $1,500 you can be tickling 375 conservatively.

If you are used to a M3, I don’t know if it would be that much of a difference. I get about 20 MPGs, probably not far off an M3. Obviously less power. I can’t speak to maintenance costs on an M3, I assume mine is less. If I wanted a second e9X, I would look at the wagon....lot more practicality and better MPGs, although it is down on HP by about 60 from the 335.

Ha! Geez rough neighborhood. You reminded me. Once in a large bay off lake Ontario a friend and I on my boat came across thousands of birds all floating minding there business but I had to get through to get to my docks so I drove at them not full speed or anything just had to cut a path. well they all decided to take off and circle us while raining shit on us for about a quarter mile. It was horrible we were seriously coated in bird shit.

I got out there and washed it this AM. It made me nervous because I had to scrub like a MFer. I used a microfiber mitt with chemical guys wash. But I had to upgrade to dawn because it just wasn’t potent enough to cut through that set in crap. Now I have to rewax since I’ve stripped all that off with the dawn.

Obviously it won’t work for something as big as this but I always kept a bottle of Poorboy’s Bird Shit Remover in my trunk with latex style gloves and a microfiber cloth in a ziplock bag to remove bird shit. Works wonders.

Wait what? Never heard of it. I’ll have to find some and throw it in the trunk.

So I guess I should explain my situation a little more. I used to have a 128i in addition to my M3, but I sold that when I lost my job last year. Now that I’ve found another job, I’m looking a DD, as the M3 isn’t cheap to run and an E9X fits about everyone of them. I didn’t have my 128i long enough to know about reliability and long term running costs, so I was wondering about those, and since you had a non-M E90 I figured I’d ask what your experience with it has been like. I’ve had my M3 for 2.5 years and love it, despite it’s foibles.

I’m still a little leery over N55, that’s why I went 128i last time because the N52 doesn’t really have issues. I will admit the N55 is a fun engine, my dad has a 135is and I was driving that around today and it made me want one of them. I know he had a VANOS issue with his, not sure how much it would have cost as it was still under warranty. I’m thinking I’m going to end up putting over 20k on the car per year so I’d rather not have to deal with expensive issues a lot. Doesn’t mean I won’t think about an N55 powered BMW, I’m just leaning toward the N/A route.

I get 13-15 around town and 17-20 on the highway, usually on the low end on both those figures. The M3 hasn’t been terrible to maintain, I had to replace both TPAs, alone they’re $1100 each, tires are also expensive, oh and I need rear brakes soon, parts are like $600. What I’m really looking for is something between 15-22k, gets 25 mpg combined, decent to drive, doesn’t cost as much as an M3 to maintain. The E9X fits that bill perfectly. Some people have suggested I go a different route, but I really like the E9X/128i so I’m leaning toward one of them.

too late now, but you want to be careful scrubbing as birds will eat sand to with digestion. best to blast off as much as possible with a hose.

Trust me I know. I took it to a coin op and it did nothing. So I just added about 10x the amount of soap I should have to try and add as much lubrication as I could.
