Anyone know or have pictures of how to remove the door glass from a fox body mustang? Lots of people are saying you have to drill out rivets and buy new ones or use bolts, others are sayign you can remove some trim pieces and wiggle it out but nobody has coherent photos and even the damn Haynes manual doesn’t tell me how to get the glass out of the parts car I’m going to scavange tonight. The only videos I can find are light on explanation and heavy on shakiness and grainy bullshit.

Let me guess at the Haynes instructions:

1). Disconnect battery

2). Remove window glass

Install is reverse of removal.

Removing windows is pretty simple in most cars, and I would be very surprised if you had to drill out any rivets to do it. Generally, you will have to pop out the door card, remove the window crank mechanism, and pull out the weatherstripping and trim. The glass should then be able to wiggle out of the widened opening.

Got a better one. When my dad was fixing our minivan, the guide said something like “Haynes recommends professional repair due to the dangers inherent in power windows” Thanks, because I bought the manual because I wanted to pay someone else to do the work.

Ford used to have a nasty habit of riveting things together that could’ve been bolted (handles, power lock actuators, and door glass). Been every bit of 10 years since I’ve been in a fox body door, but that’s about the right time period for them to have been on their rivet kick.

I asked a buddy who has an 89 but no luck he’s never had any window issues and the few times the door cards have been off he hasn’t noted it.. cant you practice on the GF’s 1st? Heres a link to one that was for sale on ebay but you never know if it was a real photo or just a random window. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-1993-OEM-Mustang-Convertible-driver-side-LH-door-glass-window-88-93-KX3-/172311512143

This one seems pretty straight forward.

Did it by removing the whole slider by bending the inner door skin to pull it out and put the new one in. No drilling.

Still. Fuck Ford. I’ve seen more idiotic engineering in the Ford vehicles I’ve owned and worked on than any other make.

Ive also done that on a junkyard explorer that I didn’t need the regulator out of, just the glass. And I can’t agree more. On my Ranger the OE shock has 2 bolts, a 3/4" bottom bolt and a 14mm top bolt. And the top bolt on the new KYB one was 15mm. Fuck Ford royally.

Side note: Think about this; my truck has an American engine designed in England, built in Germany mated to a Japanese transmission and installed into a truck built in St. Paul Minnesota. Who in their right mind ever thought that was a good idea?

YES. SERIOUSLY. Ford is the WORST for mixing imperial and metric even on the same damn part. My S197 V6 Mustang was an American car assembled in Michigan on a platform slightly tweaked from Jaguar and an engine made in Germany. Ugh.

Also, the light assemblies on my buddy’s rangers. Whoever thought up that idiotic adjuster/light mount needs to be shot and hanged.
