I miss my old car

Never should have sold this thing. But I was younger and hell-bent on Tacoma ownership, so I sold it to my uncle. That was around 2003, and he subsequently sold it to my friend and coworker a couple of years later. So I’ve seen it every day since, and damn do I want it back, but he’s never selling it, because he’s smart. It’s got 150,000 more miles now and I still love it. Of all the cars I have seller’s remorse over, my two E28s are at the top of the list. What car do you want back?

I understand that, I miss the E28 more than any ex. That’s a nice Compact, I got to put an S52 in one of those for a customer, almost the same color. It was a riot. I’d love to daily a stock one.

I kind of wish I hadn’t sold my Blazer and my Volvo 144, but damn, I really shouldn’t have sold my E28 either. Fast car I’ve ever had, and had the most potential.

Thanks. It was just a 316i with 102hp and it didn’t have much extras, but it was mine. Only for a short period of time but I don’t care. It just had sentimental value because my grandpa bought it new with the intention to hand it down to me when I turn 18 but under unfortunate circumstances I had to sell it.

I’d love to build an M3 Compact sometime just like a German magazine did back in the 90s.

Sorry to hear that, hope you find another. I’d recommend that build if you can, M-power is just hilarious fun in the short chassis.

Not a very unique car, but my old Civic. Sold it before I moved back to Texas, because it didn’t have A/C and it was very hard to find A/C parts in junkyards. IIRC I called a Honda dealer and they said they could put an A/C system in for like 2-3 grand. Might have been worth it TBH.

I think the reason why I liked it better than my current Integra is that the more economical D-series engine weighs like 100lbs less than the more performance oriented B-series in the Integra and Si Civics. And the suspension was softer which always made it feel like you were going faster than you actually were in the corners.

I’ll own a hatchback EG one day though. With A/C!

It amazes me how many people love or deeply want an e28, shame that mine will be going soon. Assuming that I can’t find the proper person in person, I could share a craigslist link to oppo.....

Ooh! A kinja crop!! Haven’t seen that in a while.

I got this 73 Chevelle Deluxe in 1990 (wish I had a before pic). It was a bit rusty and beat up but for a High Schooler it was a decent Hot Rod. From 1992 to around 1998 Dad, myself and a few friends rebuilt every inch of the car. As it sits in that pic it had custom fiberglass hood, nose, fenders, doors and decklid with lexan door glass on pull cords and a home made track setup. It took a full 8 months of bodywork to get it ready to paint (Mopar PB3 2 stage). The engine was a 10.5:1 427 (.060 over for 440ci) with a roller cam of my own design, a T400 trans and 4.33 gears. I even built the roll bar (6 point) from scratch.

Long story short.. (Yeah, I know..) I sold it just after getting married to help buy/build a house around 2003. I no longer have the house, wife or the car and even still have a few “friends” that won’t speak to me for getting married and selling it.

I want another bad. But it has to be a 1973 and the full base “Deluxe” model with rubber floors and dog dishes. Preferably with a primer black passenger fender too.

If and when the listing is made, it will find it’s way to oppo. And let me warn you, it drives well, but will need a decent amount of work, I hope you like gearboxes.

Excellent. Yeah, I need to see how much G260s for for lately, and compare that combined cost to importing something that already has euro bumpers....

I still own my first car and my second car is my current daily driver (I’m 34). Still though, I’ve sold a few cars during the last few years. Cars I liked.

Given ownership taxation in the Netherlands and having only a single garage I can’t really hold on to too many cars. The near perfect slushboxed 1988 E30 325i Touring is the one I believe I should’ve hold on to, or sold in a different way. But that’s in retrospect, so no real regrets. Don’t really want it back though.

Right? I can’t stand the 5mph bumpers. My friend had an ‘86 535i for a while, and just ran it without bumpers. It looked really good. This isn’t the best picture of it, but you get the idea

My Continental has been on my mind a lot lately. For the money I got I should have kept her until I could get the body rot fixed. She only had had 150,000, and I should have kept it and driven it into the ground. She deserved better than what she got.

Yeah, you’re so right...this one had self-leveling suspension and traction control, at the time I didn’t realize how unusual *smh* maybe some day...

It’s tough with great cars, isn’t it? People USE them and they get 300K+ miles and stuff...

Best wishes though. A 535i or maybe even -is would be terrific. Somewhere there’s a really nice one with your name on it

Super cool, sounds like a beast! Hope you find another. I sold a couple of cars to buy a house with my wife too, one of them my other E28. Life moves on, but that house now holds my family so it was a good means to an end. It still stings a little though when I reminisce about the cars.

Those trucks do catch a lot of shit, but they are hard to kill and make good hoon machines with the 4.3. There’s a ZR2 with the full off-road appearance kit not far from me that I think looks badass.

Yep. I don’t even remember the last time I saw any manual E34, let alone a V8 or especially an M540. I remember how special those things were. Worth seeking out, good luck to you as well.

I think my old 535 up there has 270k on it now, it had less than 130k when I bought it. Great cars, indeed.

E28s are totally radical so I can imagine you wanting it back. For me: I always keep the cars I truly love, hence my small “collection”.

Two cars do come in mind though (and you can probably guess)... The car that eased up my average driving speed:

And my beloved...

I can’t imagine running that truck in Europe! I rarely even drive mine, between horrible mileage and it’s size, it doesn’t make sense to daily here. There is crazy! :) That Cinquecento yours too?!? I don’t generally like any euro convertibles, but I like Z4s. Great to drive, easy to work on. I’d be happy to daily a coupe.

At least I’ve been able to keep my two special ones, but I do miss a whole bunch of old cars. Can’t keep them all, I guess, I’ve been lucky to have them. In addition to the E28s, lately I’m especially regretting selling the Urquattro. I miss having a turbo five and big sixes!

I always want my YJ back. EVERY SINGLE DAY! Even if it was a square headlight with the 4cyl. It’s been my overall favorite car I have owned. I love my GTO to pieces, but the Jeep was just it. I should have never sold her. She should be somewhere in Colorado right now. At least that is where the kid who bought it took it for college...

It was just the parking that was a horror with being about a meter longer than the average parking space. People would move out of your way in a heartbeat though if you saw a spot ;-) That Cinquecento Sporting (with the Fiat Uno F.I.R.E. 1100cc engine!) wasn’t mine, drove it quite a bit though: fun cars!

My Z4 is your Quattro. But at least I’ll be able to get it back. That Quattro is getting out of reach, into the stratosphere, rapidly...

I like to say, if you want to buy a car just before it skyrockets in value, buy it from me. Sad, but it’s proven true. Especially the Q and M5, but at least they gave some money for the house.
