I feel like you need to be smoking a cigarette while filming this. Also, what kind of Frenchman doesn’t wear a watch?
Funny story: I was in Paris last summer and stayed at an Air bnb rental. We got in really late, so I went to the corner to find some food. I was a bit intimidated as I speak almost no French. I walk into a bustling neighborhood resturaunt and their special was a bacon cheeseburger. I’m like, you have got to be fucking kidding me. I didn’t want to be an asshole American and order a chesseburger at local joint in Paris, but I did, and it was one of the top five burgers I’be ever had. This was in a neighborhood too and not some touristy area.
I’ll be in London with my wife this fall but will have the days to myself. I’m going to head into Paris for a day and just chill. God I fucking love France. I’m gonna go watch Ronin now.

I do but I left early in the morning to go to Kobe that day (I live 200km away from where the video was filmed) and left it behind :)
As for the cigarette, I happily would as I used to smoke like every other proud french citizen, but then my wife would try to divorce me so.....
Cheeseburgers are great in France too! Often a lot better than in the states or elsewhere, with rare bloody meat, good proper cheese...etc etc. I mean, we’re french. We love bread, we love meat, we love cheese. Of course, cheeseburgers are high our our list :)
Get yourself an old Belmondo movie for a good dose of very french action movie! Though Ronin is indeed awesome...

Simplicité man... Go for a good ol’ Molière for a laugh, much more fun than the kings of depression that they are haha. All french are people stuck in their typical french persona while secretely wishing they were world famous comedians :)

The one thing the French do poorly, comedy. I turned on a French variety show once and they had Ray Liota on (no idea why). A drag queen who was hosting started eating fake feces. Everyone was laughing their asses off, and Ray Liotta was sitting there terrified. I though someone had slipped acid in my water, but it was real. Surrealist comedy. Still better than German comedy. They would have used real feces.

hahaha, I actually know what you’re talking about... This... well, it’s pretty “different” indeed, but you definetely have to know who was doing it to understand it... Jose Garcia and Antoine de Caunes are two of the most renowed comedians in France. Garcia always dreamed of imitating De Niro and he thought at the time that doing it in front of Ray Liotta was the closest he’d ever go gonna get to De Niro. Only problem being that he doesn’t speak a word of english... He knew 3 sentences by heart and had to repeat them over and over and hold the whole sketch like this while Antoine De Caunes would do the rest of the sketch in french, or at least try to. The whole thing is filled with play on words that would be utterly impossible to translate and make them sound somewhat funny in English... Liotta was bound not to understand any fucking thing of what as going on :)
This is certainly the worst possible way to get introduced to french comedy haha
I would recommend trying “Le diner de cons”, “Le pere noel est une ordure”, “La grande vadrouille” or “Les visiteurs” for typical french comedy that is more... reachable for foreigners :)

hahaha, the “american champagne” thing and the guy getting the frozen food out at the very end were awesome! It’s so true and we’re all mostly like that when in France :). I used to have a collection of pictures of Japanese taking pictures of things around them. Whenever I’d see japanese taking pictures of random stuff (every 10 minutes), I’d take a picture of them and add it to my collection. I genuinely enjoyed it :)
My wife (japanese) hated it! No idea were it is now, but yeah, we’re all assholes. Still no idea why everyone keeps on wanting to visit Paris :D

Absolutely the cheeseburgeri had in France was top five I’ve ever had. Some of it may have had to do with the fact I had been wanting one so badly but I swear they use the freshest ingredients.

I just spent 1 week with a Cummins equipped 2016 Dodge Ram 2500. It’s actually the first car I drove after that week (still haven’t driven my RX-7 since I came back from the US). It felt like a freaking microcar lol

It’s big city syndrome. The largest city of any country/state/province etc has a rep for being populated by assholes. I haven’t spent significant time in Paris, but I have been to eastern France (the “German part” as I call it :) ) and nobody seemed especially rude. A little aloof, but that’s the German side showing through.
I also live in a somewhat touristy area, and I would take the goofy but usually kind Japanese tourists from the 80s-90s over the douchebaggy new money ones from a couple specific areas who are a thing today.
That’s also an underrated cult classic from the 80s - if you haven’t seen it, do it. They play very well on local stereotypes, and as it was filmed in 1984, it has some excellent car-spotting.

The movie is an underrated classic in my opinion, doing an amusing job of mocking stereotypes. It also has some good car scenes.
