The old Sedona had a transverse engine under a pseudo-longitudinal plastic cover. Lies, blatant lies.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Also, the original Sedona had the Rover KV6 in Europe and Australia, license built by Kia.

Kinja'd!!!

A bit odd that they decided to source their powerplant from the company whose best engine ever was a fifty year old Buick block. As expected, there were massive quality issues and early Sedona/Carnivals went through several engines at a time, replaced free of charge under warranty with no questions asked. Maybe that’s where Tesla gets its policy from...

You just know they had at least one meeting about this.

those plastic engine covers are just so stupid... do nothing, make access more difficult, look dumb, add useless weight...

But, but...soundproofing!

Agreed though, the more engine you see the better. On my dad’s V70, you actually get to see most of it and there’s a surprising amount of room in there as a result.

Kinja'd!!!

My V50's a bit more plasticky but at least it’s mostly honest and functional.

Not sure who they’re trying to impress, or if anyone actually bothered checking if it was a transverse V6.

Oh, that’s just wrong . And it totally rubs in the fact that the engine isn’t centered, which wouldn’t have even been a big deal if it wasn’t pretending to be longitudinal like that.

Lordy it must be lack of sleep because I hadn’t even noticed that! Can you imagine the gearing nightmare that an offset longitudinal FWD engine would be?

I think I heard that there are in fact some vehicles in which the longitudinal engine is slightly off-center, to make way for the steering shaft.

But THIS... ugh, this must be one of the most “poser” things a manufacturer has ever done to a car...

It’s like the opposite of the Q45's V8 that looks transverse

That first part sounds like a cover-up (so ta speak)

This may be incorrect but without fact-checking it, weren’t the original Audi longitudinal I-5's mounted off center? tbh it’s never occurred to before me to wonder; for the day they were awash with such new & fantastic, complex, illogical — but somehow successful — tech anyway

Edit should be in the little three dot menu at the top right of your post. it only hangs around for 15 minutes or so after you post though.

Edit: like this:

Is it even like the Nissan VH where the intake manifold appears rotated 90' from the engine (longitudinal looks traverse)? Then it’d at least have precedent.

Hey. Hey you. Up there on your high horse. You know what?

That’s probably not even the weirdest thing you’ve ever done to fit in. Okay, so a log-mounted engine cover on a transverse engine looks weird. You know what else looks weird? A foreigner trying to fit into a strange land of RWD and V8s, trying to make friends, trying to blend in when the ‘murican neighbors come over and wonder why you’ve never done a burnout and how come you won’t join them at the drag strip.

Did he stick the landing? Naw. Not at all. But you know what? He made an effort. He tried to adapt himself to our customs and shed himself a little bit of those from his homeland in Korea. He tried to make himself more acceptable to us. He tried to work toward something that was given to every Camaro, Challenger and Mustang from day one, moment one; He tried to be an american. And goddamnit, that’s good enough for me.

That always confused the hell out of me. Likewise, the Busso V6 with its six parallel intakes which make it look like a miniature V12 or a really weird I6.

The ford Mondeo V6 doesn’t really show the extra intake tubes, but there’s a valve in them that close below 3500 i think to aid low end power. Not sure if this does the same

I don’t think there’d be any gearing implications, but you would end up with unequal-length halfshafts.

Kinja'd!!! "Amoore100" (amoore100)

Indeed, although the whole point of longitudinal FWD is to avoid the issue of unequal length halfshafts so it would be a hilariously redundant solution.
