Kinja'd!!!

Yes, that is a billet LS block made by Dart .

Precision machined from a solid Billet of Aerospace Aluminum, Dart Billet blocks offer virtually unlimited choices in bore centerline, deck height, bore diameter, lifter and cam options.

that last bit is the best part....... “unlimited choices in bore centerline, deck height, bore diameter”..........

One day I’ll have a billet block. I’m looking into a billet crank for the next 4AGE build.

RIGHT?! Fully custom 1 off LS motor

Sounds like a great way to pigeonhole yourself into only being able to use a custom intake & heads.

Probably not a big deal if you have the budget for a billet block, though...

spacers, like the ones that they use for tall deck big blocks....... BUT what it means, is that you can go ridiculous on an overbore piston, and just finagle the bore spacing to do it right FROM THE GO. AND with the deck height mods, you can dig up THE LONGEST rods EVAR.... and it all fit. cool stuffs really.......

super long rod, tall deck, monster overbore, stroker possibilities.......

Or shorter rod, lower deck, little over bore to make it 7L, and aim for sky high rpm

Given the fact that damned near every surface got machined, a billet Corvair block really wouldn’t be far from stock.

It would because it’s still not cast.

the cool thing about the ls, is that they are great when it comes to durability at rpm. i like the super long rod, you can get more power out of it(it makes it so that the piston is more or less only traveling up and down, taking some of the rocking motion out of it) ......... and i like the monster overbore, makes for better breathing........ but i am a sucker for short stroke engines like the chevy 302, 0r the chevy 324(400 block 3 inch 283 stroke) would be amazing to build something ridiculous in that vein.....callies probably ALREADY has something laying around .......  and the ls aftermarket support is unreal.

if i didnt already have a few projects in the works, i would throw some money at it........

I was more thinking a LS motor that runs like an old V12 Ferrari

Even with Jesel Shaft rockers, and a solid lifter cam, 8500 rpm out of an LS motor is about the limit of things, reliably. I know that Lingenfelter made a flatplane crank LSX that revved to about 9000 but, they never really explored the idea more because it didnt make much more power and there were durability concerns. What would be more interesting is a custom SOHC or DOHC LSX, or even a large bore Mod Motor.

Even then max RPM on these things is only 8000RPM. Then again revving an engine to 8 or 9K is kind of pointless when you compare it to the cost and potential for catastrophic failure, if you can make good power through the entire power band like an LS7.

you can get a little more than 8k out of them, BUT it takes a few more dollars to keep them in one piece. usually it has to do with oiling, and drainback, forged guts, dry sump systems are a BIG step towards it, but again its $$$$money$$$$

but its not so much, about taking it way past 8k. its about being able to take it to say 7500. reliably . every shift. and being able to optimize for that..... even at that level, parts life expectancy is in hours, and runs. more frequent maintenance, and the maintenance items get expensive.......

i know, i know, no replacement for displacement......... except for boost, nos, exotic fuels, compression, and rpms(most of those are forms of dispacement).
