I say all future Mercedes electric models should get the smart badge. So an all-electric AMG GT would be the AMG GT-smart. Maybe Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, and Mercedes-smart branding would work. I just like the sense of humor with that badge that happens to resemble a sideways dunce cap. Mercedes needs something cheery and better electric branding to compete with BMW once they go all-electric with the “i” brand.

That’s actually kinda ... smart.

Sorry.

Idk, “smart” doesn’t have a very prestigious image in America. Maybe different in Europe, but I don’t think any Americans would want a “smart” badge on their 100k MB.

Daimler is already working on a BMW i rivalling brand named EQ. Probably better for them to start a new brand than taking an existing one with a reputation for micro cars. I imagine the next all electric Smart to be sold under the EQ brand.

That’s a very good idea. Unfortunately it would be greeted by MB management with “But the word ‘Smart’ is not digits salted with a couple of random letters. Everyone knows all German cars must be named with digits plus one or two random letters. Otherwise there will be madness, complete chaos!”

Meh. Smart is known in the US at least for midget electric cars of dubious quality. It’d be hard for Mercedes to separate the name from the reputatuon. Besides, Smart is the kind of brand name that can’t take itself too seriously. Just look at Telsa. That name: Tesla. Sounds dominating, authoritative. Smart sounds...cute.
