Yesterday I had to get from SFO to our office in downtown SF. Coworker told me to use Lyft. So I did and it worked really well. Plus Steven drove me in his awesome Toyota Carolla S.

I’m currently in salt lake waiting for my next flight back home and found Lyft cars everywhere. I really like how the map shows you where the cars are. The app also has a head shot of the driver and an internet generic image of their car.

Did I mention that I hate driving in the Bay Area?

It’s like a taxi but more convenient

No there is no real difference, but Lyft is an SF based company so I thought I should support them.

The problem with lyft etc.. is that they are a bunch of dumfucks who block lanes in SF during traffic. I don’t remember taxis doing stupid shit like that before the rise of internet scab taxis.

same in ny.

at least the yellow cabs recklessly speed out of your way.

Most drivers drive for both, and they seem to like lyft more. On the consumer side, lyft lets you tip in the app. Otherwise not too different, slight difference in availability and coverage depending on the market.

Yeah... I had a guy just keep waving his hand at me with a whole lane of cars waiting at 5pm. I started opening my door and said I would break his ass, then he moved! Imagine that. Most are moonlighting tech nerds.

They guy who gave me a ride was going to school to be a radiologist.

I don’t know how they get away with saying they are not a taxi service, because that is exactly what they are.

Why not just take BART for that trip?

I certainly could have. Frankly I can’t believe I didn’t think of that considering there is a BArt station 4 blocks from the offfice. I have used it traveling from the east bay numerous times.

Well the supply of yellow cabs is artificially constrained by the medallion system. The cabs don’t block traffic waiting for fares because they always have a fare quickly (at least in the busy areas). But the downside is you can’t always quickly get a cab, which is why Uber was able to come in.

Uber is also a San Francisco based company?

A couple of things:

- Many Lyft/Uber drivers drive like asshats, those who don’t aren’t good drivers either. That said, no worse than taxis.

- The cars shown in the app may or may not be real. Uber has admitted that the cars shown aren’t actually there - it’s just for show. Lyft is probably the same.

- Lyft gets my vote because it’s less terrible of a company. It also shows a little picture of the car with the CORRECT color. Big points on showing an icon of a red maxima if the car is indeed a red maxima.

Counterpoint: BART is garbage. As far as public transit systems go, it’s pretty terrible (Muni is worse). I live in the East bay and sure, Bart will get me into the city, but it doesnt really get you to anywhere relevant at least for visiting friends.

Bart is convenient to get to the airport though.

I’m also shocked that you’ve never used Lyft! Had you never used any rideshare app or just lyft? Especially if you hate driving in the Bay Area (I hate it as well), what else do you do to get around?
