Kinja'd!!!

Planning a family trip to the Rockies in Alberta/BC this June. We’ll be in Lethbridge, Calgary, Banff, and maybe Radium Hot Springs or something. Driving up from Utah in an RV (never done an RV trip).

Anything on the “must do” list?

Take the Chief Mountain Highway and cross the border at Chief Mountain

Yes. Stay in the right lane on multi-lane roads, and pull overs every so often on two-lane roads to let angry motorists pass you.

Definitely spend some time in Banff National Park, and Heritage Park is one of my favourite places in Calgary. If you can go a little further out of Calgary, the badlands and hoodoos are very cool to see.

That’s the route we are taking home. We are too big to do the “Going to the sun road”, otherwise I’d love to spend some time around Glacier. Maybe next time.

Is your RV a trailer? If so, ask one of the local hotels if you can leave your trailer with them for a day. GTTS is worth it.

If you don’t have a trailer, then take one of the park service shuttles or a Red Bus tour.

Heritage park looks awesome. Thanks for the links! Off to do research!

This is good advice. The pulling over every so often part, I mean. We’ll be doing our fair share of two-lane roads.

We did this same trips two years in a row when I was a teen

Kinja'd!!!

It was amazing. You know everything we saw in BC was great. Went to a native Canadian festival, that was very very cool. Similar to US natives, but different enough to be fun and educational. Had amazing dried ribs in Grand Forks, but not a must do. Vancouver we went on a sea plane tour, that is a MUST do. It was so freaking awesome! I really wanted to go to Victoria, but we didn’t have time to either trip.

No. It’s a 42' class a diesel. I think we will do Glacier and Yellowstone another year so we can do GTTS and take our sweet time.

There’s also the air museum in Calgary, they’ve got a Lancaster in their collection

That looks incredible. Our trip will also be ~3600 miles. Never done one quite so ambitious. Makes me tired thinking about it.

My (Canadian) wife has been telling me great things about Banff. Sounds like a must-see to me.

It’s a gorgeous place, Banff itself, and the surrounding area. I mean most of BC is gorgeous, but the Rockies are special.

I live in Lethbridge. Waterton and Banff are both awesome! If you are going over to Radium stop in Field/Yoho, super awesome. AMA if you have anything else.

Never heard of either place. What’s there? Hikes and such? Maybe we’ll stay a night there if there is a campground.

Have fun in the parks this summer;

Maybe you’ll see a deer..

I would do Waterton, Nordeg, and the West Kootenays instead of the National Parks this year if I were planning a trip..

I used to. My dad worked in Hermosa and then moved to PV. Now he is retired and is going up to Oregon. I live in SLO now.
