Kinja'd!!!

What if Opel’s future acquisition by PSA is a piece in a plan designed by Carlos Ghosn to take over the (car) world?

Kinja'd!!!

Carlos Tavares was his right hand for years, until after one silly comment he had to leave and slam the door?

Shortly after leaving Renault-Nissan, Tavares moves to PSA Peugeot Citroën, the other big French car maker. After applying Ghosn tactics, Tavares turns around PSA from heavily bleeding cash, to being into the position of buying another automaker.

Kinja'd!!!

Meanwhile Renault-Nissan is integrating Mitsubishi in its network, and posts global growth for most of its brands.

Kinja'd!!!

Now comes the question. What if the whole Tavares departure was just for show, and the first step from a plan to create the biggest automaker in the world. An automaker so big, it would combine Renault, Nissan, Infiniti, Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel, Mitsubishi, Dacia,Datsun and Lada?

This is like the gospel of Judas wherein he claimed that his role was required of him all along.

I’d be more apt to believing that it is an Edward Lewis style revenge act to make a man who slighted him unemployed.

I love mixed analogies!

Those other 16 hours are for making Citroen suspension fluid using black magic.

What if it’s Sergio Marchionne attempting to make room within GM for his little car maker by squeezing Opel out?

Nope, several sick patients don’t make a healthy company. All I can see is overcapacity and cannibalism within your theory.

If that means the whole world is going to look like our driveway, I’m okay with that.

Well I guess only Opel is really sick, due to the way it was ‘abused’ by GM over the years. Maybe Mitsubishi is slightly sick too. But the rest is kinda heathy right? Or am I missing something?

What if it’s just a big troll job to make a car company called “SOAP”?

It’s highly extaggerated, I know, but I’m still not fully convinced why PSA should buy Opel and why some sort of “all star” auto super group would be such a good idea. Just look at how GM ended up with a million brands under their umbrella.

What grinds my gears with this whole PSA/Opel merger talks is the horrible PR job from all sides just as Opel is about to launch three important products. I don’t think potential customers like instability.

I agree with that a super auto group is a bad idea, fun to have a discussion about, but a bad idea none the less.

I agree that the whole PSA/Opel merger talks aren’t really beneficial to stability. PSA was barely able to survive a few years ago, so I’m not even sure if they could pull it off, or would just repeat the 70s Citroën story, with all it’s merger tries and sales of brands, and bankrupcies.

It does sound good in theory but too many brands would compete with each other in Europe in the same market. Just imagine Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and Dacia sharing platforms, engines and much more while competing. VW does this with Seat, Skoda and Audi but it was a long and expensive way and Seat just recently transformed into something justifyable.

But on the upside, a super group could pump out some interesting cars. Imagine all the brands having access to each others platforms. Alpine with Nissan GTR bits? Maybe something like that.
