The truck driver really should have just punted that asshole off the road.

No jury would convict him if he did.

as much as I sometimes get irritated at slow trucks, I have to admit there are some truck drivers out there who are incredibly good at getting out of situations like that. Like the time I saw a gasoline tanker pop a front tire; hats off to the driver for keeping that thing pointed straight.

We call this the “Jersey Slide” when a car exits from the left lane. Fortunately for the others on the road most times that driver is using the gas pedal, not the brake when doing the maneuver. I see in VA they do it differently.

This driver learned that trick in Florida.

And that crap driver probably didn’t even notice the hell he caused.

Kudos to the truck driver. Had I been in their position I probably would have just smoked them.

No, it’s a skill they acquired after moving down (generally from Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois) at age 72. These things only come with experience. You can’t teach a skill like this.

Wow, I’m actually more impressed with the OTHER truck driver. He not only kept it out of the oncoming lane, he kept it upright. Both of these drivers deserves bonuses.

*sees car cut off truck*

Eh, that wasn’t that crazy.

*sees additional truck blow into the green with zero clearance*

Holy mother of god.

The sad thing is, that even with a dashcam as record, an accident like that would probably get him fired, and make it damned hard to find good work with something like that on his record.

If it’s an owner-operator, insurance paying for the truck isn’t a big deal... lost wages would be a much bigger deal. If you can’t operate, you’re losing thousands of dollars in missed work.

Sure, you could sue the other driver for lost wages.... but good luck.

Yeah truck drivers really have their nuts in a bind when it comes to dickhead drivers like these, and the road ragers that cut off the trucks and brake check them. They seem to KNOW the trucker’s not going to risk his livelihood and smack the asshole off the road, they got too much riding on it.

Sometimes I see trucks with massive solid bush bars. I thought they would only be for keeping wildlife contact under control, but seems like it would have been helpful here. If you don’t count the insurance hassle, at least there would be no downtime from damage and less risk to the other lanes.

I hear that rear-ending collisions are almost always blamed on the vehicle behind.

But surely not in this case.
