Taking segment 2 of Drivers’ Ed next week. I can’t wait to start driving my truck every day, and without parents. (I love them, but having mommy in the passenger seat does not help the image, let’s be honest.)

just remember, high school girls may not be impressed by correct use of the indicator and non-douche driving tendancies, but we are, and oppositelock is your only true friend!

The girls at my school aren’t my type anyways (smoking’s a huge deal breaker, everyone smokes) and it’s an alternative school, which means lots of girls you wouldn’t introduce to your parents.

Good. Less girls, more trucks.

Damn straight. I still want to put a V8 into it. Or fix the rust. Or get tires. Or all 3.

regardless, they’ll drop the cigarette just long enough to drawl “do a burnout” then flash you some cleavage, the blood will rush away from your brain and you will do a lame ass burnout to impress a girl you don’t even like, and you’ll be all cars and coffee mustang and nail it into the nearest light pole in the parking lot.

women. nothing but touble.

Got a good chuckle. One wheel peel and 170hp from a 250,000 mile V6 means no. I’ve always been mature for my age. Also, not drawl. These kids are all from Detroit.

I dated a woman once who smoked. It hurt the romance department because every time I kissed her I couldn’t help but notice that bad taste. It was kind of a mood killer.

As long as you don’t put the tires where the engine goes, weld the engine (instead of the rust), and put the engine where the tires go...

There is a manual in your truck. That is a good thing. #savethemanuals.

In seriousness, congrats sir! Nothing like the freedom of your full license, and your own hard-earned vehicle. Just make sure to drive responsibly and take good care of her! :)

That is a familiar dash. Last spring my parents bought a 93 Dakota off of their neighbor. It is a 318, auto, extended cab 4x4 with 196k but only two owners and complete documentation from new. It is ugly (with the original two-tone dark red and silver paint peeling and a non-matching while camper shell), but never wrecked and a completely rust-free New Mexico vehicle. It is useful for them to haul large objects and take yard waste to the dump and other truck-like things. They can also drive on the two days per year is snows in ABQ and not care if someone slides into it. They got it for $950, and I had them spend a few hundred for a new A/C compressor and hoses that I put on it for them over the summer.

I wish mine was rust free. The bed is completely rotted out. It had A/C, but someone ripped it out before I got the truck.

Rust free is probably one of the best things vehicle related things about New Mexico. You can find unrestored, fifty year-old survivor vehicles that have nothing more than surface rust anywhere on them. The trade off is that any car more than 7 or 8 years old is likely to have the clear coat failing and peeling unless it was garage kept and/or waxed on a regular basis. Red cars also have a tendency of becoming more of an “ask me about Mary Kay products” color as they age here.

I’d take it over rust. A coat of primer and it looks just fine.

Awesome! We had a ‘93 Caravan when I was growing up....everybody rags on them, but I miss that van...

Never let us down once when my family went through some hard times and my parents separated due to dad cheating on mom. She couldn’t afford all the maintenance it was supposed to have, but the trooper just took it with minimal maintenance and kept on going. Sold it when the rust was getting too bad to financially feasibly repair it.

My current ‘09 Accent hatchback’s name is Humdrum! :P

We had a ‘91. Thing was like a tank in the snow.
