Car companies put their cars through some truly rigorous testing. If you don’t believe that, just take a look at this brutal front suspension abuse test done on an E39 BMW M5. If you think supercars are safe from this level of rigor, think again. The super exclusive and very expensive new Ford GT also gone through the same brutal testing just like any other Ford cars. In the video below the Ford GT is driven, at speed, through standing water to check if these conditions adversely affect the vehicle systems.

No customer in their right mind would ever do such a thing to a $450,000 supercar, but they can rest easy that their future classic will still function beautifully in torrential downpours.

The vehicle test is called the “Water and Splash test.” While it’s hard to tell the water depth, it does not seem to be higher than the GT’s front chin spoiler. Regardless, with the amount of water being kicked up it just gets everywhere, which is the point.

If you think this was a ridiculous test, check out the crash test that Horacio Pagani did on the Pagani Zonda, to analyze the crash performance of carbon fiber.
