My co-worker has a picture of a Mark II from a car show that someone customized. Just... WHY

That’s blasphemy. You can’t improve perfection

The results were not worth it.

On a more positive note, I have the replacement pieces for the Lincoln’s rockers made, and my outer rockers (the pieces I could order) have arrived. Not that impressed with them because they don’t have the intricate fold of the originals at the bottom, but oh well - they’ll work.

That is a more positive note. Seems like you’re making steady progress on it. How difficult do you think it will be to place the new pieces on there?

I’m heading *toward* making progress on it, anyway. Shouldn’t be too hard to stick them on once I’m staged, though.

How is the Land Rover? Haven’t heard much about that lately

Also, I have bought pipe and will be using a pipe bender to make new front fender edge dies, so I can put metal in the press and make repair pieces.

I drove the Land Rover to work one day last week, seems to be running pretty well. It’s got a little mud on it from my younger brother driving it out in the snow on a parts run, and some general scum from sitting. Needs a bath and waxing, badly.

I’m glad I sold the car to you you seem to have the expertise and material to fix this thing right. You’re talking about the driver side front fender right?

Both front fenders have rot in the top over the headlights that was fiberglassed in the distant past. Fiberglassed rotten and not really sealed afterward... oh well. It’s not bad more than about 3" back onto the fender, so I should be able to make a single pressed piece that I can butt-weld in place. If it turns out *really* well I may make up some batches of them for the Lincoln Mercury Old Parts Store - I’m sure the owner would love to hear about it at any rate. He seems to be a pretty big ‘58/’60 fan.

I also have to do the front edge of the hood, but I can do that with the roll former at work and... maybe some straight pipe in a vise. Haven’t decided.

It’s less that I have the expertise and material than that I’m a compulsive learner of ways to do things and can’t resist challenges, and I don’t know any better than to try to fix things usually left for dead. HA.

Well either way it’s more than I ever could have done.

And that would be great to be able to make some for the parts store. Are you talking about the big one down in Florida? I remember reading good things about that place.

Yeah, the big one down in Florida. I ordered my new horn button from them a while back, and they have since sent me a Christmas card and a Lincoln’s birthday (hint hint) card to remind me they exist. Classy guys, and they’re the ones that went nutbars and commissioned new Super Marauder intake pieces for people who want triple three barrel goodness. The main guy whose name I can’t remember was the consulted source/native guide for a Hemmings article on ‘58/’60s as a classic that can be a bargain. Of course, in it he says “BEWARE THE ROCKER PANELS, BEWARE!” or something like. Heh.

That’s pretty cool you got to meet the guy that did the Hemmings article interview!

Find a way to get the Super Marauder intake!

I didn’t get to meet him yet, just do business with him.

I want Super Marauder-dom bad.
