Kinja'd!!!

Show of hands! Is it just me? Why wouldn’t you wrap Santa’s gifts to your kids?

Not wrapping those gifts is nuts. Of course you wrap them. Drew is just lazy. Yeah, the kids will rip the wrappings off right away, but that’s true of any gift.

it would avoid the “hey, santa has the same paper as us”

I did different paper than what mom and dad use. The fancy shiny shit. But not wrapping just seems totally lazy.

Think about your carbon footprint! Less wrapping equals less waste! You should read that awful Jez piece about the author not giving Christmas presents to her 3- and 5-year old daughters because she wanted to teach them that life isn’t fair or some such lesson!

woah woah woah! that guy is getting all the credit! santa gives like socks and stuff, and I’m the giver or ipads or $100 bills (ok not that stuff) and awesomeness.

We do fancy paper and have stamps so the children won’t recognize our hand writing.

My parents didn’t wrap santa presents. But some context may help. Usually my parents gave us most of our gifts, and santa gave us one “bigger” gift and a stocking. My parents would place the present out like commandos operating, under the cover of night, and between Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning, surprise the gifts would appear. And the rule was, once they were out, they were fair game to play with, so there was still the surprise of the gift, and there was no pressure for anyone to wake up early. If my 17 year old brother didn’t care about santa; then me his 8 year old brother, could happily build a Lego castle or GI Joe tank while he slept.

I also think in lots of people’s heads santa travels with just the toys and pulls them as needed from his bag for kids without the wrapping.

So far, as a parent, I have wrapped all presents.

We don’t wrap the big things from Santa, and Santa has special wrapping paper. My daughter got a big play kitchen this year and instead of wrapping it and leaving it in the box, I put it together and put a big “From Santa” tag on it. Santa wouldn’t leave things in boxes or not put together.

Plus it makes things more special when Santa doesn’t do what mom and dad do

My wife and I don’t. We wrap the gifts from us, but one gift a year is from Santa to each of the boys, it’s assembled, it’s placed in front of the tree, it gets a special tag put on it.

“Santa is too busy to wrap your gift.”

I can understand on the big items (bike, kitchen thingy, doll house, etc.) and we used different paper too.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But now that I think about it, there’s not much point, really. Sure, the other gifts need to stay disguised for a week or two, but Santa’s don’t even make their appearance until the last minute. Might as well just have them already open, and call that the first round of gift-opening.

Discounting large items (bikes, etc.) I just think if I would have opened a Game Boy on Xmas and had my parents say it was from Santa but he’s a busy guy and doesn’t wrap stuff I’d be pretty bummed.

At my house, we did Christmas on Christmas Eve. Usually around midnight... but it eventually got earlier and earlier, until we started opening presents around 9 p.m. And all the gifts from “Santa” were wrapped.

The combination of Christmas Eve present-opening, lack of a fireplace, and knowing my dad would don the jolly red suit (and stuff it with a pillow because he’s always been a thin man) before heading out to play Santa at his job meant I never really believed in Santa Claus to begin with.

Didn’t ever believe in the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, either, what with her handwriting being eerily similar to my mom’s.

Mom still signs some of the gift tags as being from “Santa.”

We use different paper on Santa’s gifts to throw him off. I’m sure as he gets older he’ll get wise to it. He also didn’t buy when his aunt left the room and magically a giant bunny came walking in on Easter.

We don’t see a point in lying to them, Santa, tooth ferry, Easter bunny laying eggs, all that stuff.

We do get them gifts and they are from “Mom & Dad”, we herd the kids and 1/2 of the adults will go hide eggs around the yard. We take the good parts, but when you lie, what will they actually believe?

My wife’s Brother-in-law says we are ruining our kids childhood, but I doubt they are really missing out on anything.

Growing up our gifts from santa were unwrapped, but it was usually the excuse for a difficult to wrap item like a bike or something.

I have no kids and my wife and I will usually only wrap a few gifts and then just go to our respective offices and bring out the others one at a time behind our back.
