You want how much for a 10 year old, 60k mile car?

997's are fantastic, but my adult sensibilities are starting to creep in and I’m not sure I’m comfortable paying $50k+ for a clean version of my dream car, when age is every bit the enemy as is mileage. Prices are ridiculous, and continue to be ridiculous.

Same reason I never bought one. Just hurts too much to pay so dearly for such an old car. That said, values have been very static, so had I actually bought one two years ago when I probably could’ve/should’ve, I’d have not lost a penny on it.

I think values have been climbing. 2-3 years ago was a good time to buy. The best time to buy was right after the crash. You could buy a 2-3 year old C2S for $42k. Now that same car is $52k.

I have a friend in that situation right now. He is looking at 996 Turbos or possibly a 997.2 Carrera. I keep nudging him towards the Turbo.

I found a one-owner 2006 C2 Cab with 59k on it at a local MB dealer a couple years back and talked them down to $30k for it. But couldn’t pull the trigger because 1) I wanted a coupe and 2) I wanted a S.

But it was a great price for a nice, local, one-owner. I still look from time to time, but never find anything really worth it (to me) to investigate further.

If you haven’t yet, you may want to try to join a local PCA - that can get you access to classified sales, same goes for local PCA chapter’s Facebook pages. One other that I was close to buying was found via a local PCA Facebook page, of all things. Nice, black C2 coupe.

Probably $20,000

I’ve been looking at PCA cars too.

I’m also really particular. I won’t buy one without a clean DME scan to start. And in most cases I want to the cylinders scope to make sure there is no sign of bore scoring.

Prices apparently have been rising according to a thread on Rennlist. The 997.2 is holding value exceptionally well. Its production numbers were down compared to the 996 and 997.1 and I don’t think as many people traded up to the 991 which is causing a low supply, especially for a manual S, 4S, or GTS. I’d really like to add a GTS to my fleet (which includes a 997.1 C4S cab), but I can’t justify the price when there are other cars I’d like to experience for a fraction of the cost (Elise, Viper, Z06, or even a Hellcat).

First gen Caymans are priced really well right now though.

I agree with that thread. There are a lot of used 991 C2's on lots. I’m not a fan of em.

I’m too tall for Caymans or I would be looking.

Perhaps a little bit less clean is your best bet? A good example, well used can still be maintained. 60K miles on a 10 year old car is fairly low - I’d be less scared of miles and more scared of >2-3 owners.
