Just after college, I lived with a group of friends in Hawaii... we spent a lot of time with a group of girls... one in particular we all wanted to hook up with but none of us ever did. One night we were sitting around talking about music and drinking - she was fond of Jack Daniels, so that’s probably what we were drinking. Somehow, the New Kids on the Block came up, and she lit up, apparently this was her favorite band of all time (or, perhaps its position was inflated by the Jack). She said something to the effect of, “DUDE! If you showed up at my house with a NKOTB tape and a bottle of Jack, I would f**k you on the spot. NO JOKE! I mean it.”
So one day I’m in the local second hand store, and
lo and behold!
A cassette tape of New Kids on the Block. I kept it until the last night before leaving the island, and since she was staying, she offered that I could stay at her place since the other guys had left for various reasons, so we all had to move out. Naturally, I found the tape and put it in a brown paper bag (classy!) with a bottle of Jack, and gave it to her as a Thank You.
She laughed hysterically when she found the tape, and we did, in fact... listen to the tape and drink the Jack; nothing more. Yup, the 23 year old me was just as disappointed in the outcome of this story as you were. Surprised? Maybe not. But I can still hear the hysterical laugh, that alone was worth it.

Really? I go back and forth between buying Crown and Bulleit Rye. The bourbon is a staple.

Well I don’t quite care for rye in general, but between those I would take the Bulleit. Crown isn’t very good.
